For the first time in nearly four months, Invicta FC is set to return with its first event since the coronavirus pandemic caused a shutdown, Invicta FC 40, with weigh-ins taking place Wednesday. In the main event, recent strawweight title challenger Emily Ducote takes on Juliana Lima . And in the co-headliner, Alesha Zappitella meets Lindsey VanZandt in an atomweight fight. Invicta FC 40, which takes place Thursday in Kansas City, Kan., and streams on UFC Fight Pass, originally was scheduled to include six fights but will proceed with five after DeAnna Bennett was unable to make it to the scale because of a medical issue during her weight cut.

Invicta FC is back. The most prominent all-female fight organization in the world will return Thursday, July 2 with Invicta 40 in Kansas City, Kan. at a venue-to-be-named-later. The promotion announced the news in a press release issued Tuesday. In the main event, ex-UFC fighter Juliana Lima returns against ex-Bellator fighter Emily Ducote in a strawweight matchup. Also on the card, atomweights Lindsey VanZandt and Alesha Zappitella face off in a co-main event showdown

The promotion on Saturday announced its first “Phoenix Rising Series” event will take place May 3 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. The event streams on UFC Fight Pass. Eight 115-pound fighters will compete in a one-night single-elimination tournament, including three fighters with UFC experience and two former Invicta title challengers. CHARLOTTE – For the last month of her training camp for UFC on FOX 27, women’s strawweight Randa Markos started her day with a trip to a physiotherapist. He was the only one who gave Markos the thumbs up to compete. Every other doctor she went to said she couldn’t fight after partially tearing her MCL and completely tearing her patellar tendon. “He told me, ‘Don’t worry, I’ve seen this before, you’re going to be fine,’” Markos said after her gutsy win over Juliana Lima on the FS1-televised prelims, which took place Saturday at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C. “He got my knee back to normal.” Markos (8-5 MMA, 4-4 UFC) went into the fight with a very specific game plan to avoid situations that could aggravate her physical limitations

Markos (8-5 MMA, 4-4 UFC) took a unanimous decision from Juliana Lima (9-5 MMA, 3-4 UFC) thanks to a solid takedown game and dominance on the canvas and in the clinch. Markos took a trio of 30-27 scores for the win, getting her back to .500 in the UFC – where she never has had a losing skid, but also never a winning streak.
