LAS VEGAS – Luana Carolina missed weight by a sizeable margin for UFC Fight Night 235 , but she delivered on fight night with an emphatic win. Carolina (10-4 MMA, 5-3 UFC) fended off the dangerous submission attacks of Julija Stoliarenko (11-8-2 MMA, 2-6 UFC) for nearly three full rounds before she managed to get top position late in the fight and unload punches until referee Eric McMahon waved it off with just seconds remaining at the 4:52 mark of Round 3 at the UFC Apex. Julija Stoliarenko had a lot to prove on a big stage in London, and played the role of spoiler and underdog perfectly in less than two minutes. In the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 224 at The O2 in London, Stoliarenko (11-7-1 MMA, 2-5 UFC) shared the octagon with Molly McCann (13-6 MMA, 6-5 UFC). It was an underdog role in every sense of the word for Stoliarenko, but she silenced a hostile crowd and tapped her fan-favorite opponent at 1:55 of Round 1. LONDON – Julija Stoliarenko is happy to finally be competing at her natural weight class. Stoliarenko (10-7-1 MMA, 1-5 UFC) makes her flyweight debut against Molly McCann (13-5 MMA, 6-4 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 224 co-main event at The O2 in London. The event streams on ESPN+. Stoliarenko got her ticket to the UFC through Season 28 of “The Ultimate Fighter” as a featherweight. But Stoliarenko explained that competing at 145 pounds or a catchweight in the past was just based on the opportunities that were presented to her, not what she saw as a natural fit. “Every time when I was stepping to featherweight, it was just because I wanted to get a fight,” Stoliarenko told reporters at Thursday’s UFC Fight Night 224 media day.
