LAS VEGAS – It took K.J. Noons more than two rounds to stop looking for the perfect striking opportunity and just throw. When Josh Burkman slammed him to the mat and roughed him up on the mat, it became easy to see why. On paper, the matchup of two experienced vets offered an exciting scrap. But it was ultimately Burkman (28-12 MMA, 6-7 UFC) who took the fight to Noons (13-9 MMA, 2-3 UFC), giving the judges little choice other than to award him a decision. The lightweight bout closed out the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 82 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

K.J. Noons K.J. Noons is wondering how Josh Burkman will handle the cut to lightweight after so many years as a welterweight. As someone who’s crisscrossed divisions over a decade in MMA, he knows well the effects of gaining and losing pounds prior to a fight – he’s doing it again after fighting at welterweight in a previous bout. “For the past five or six years, it was so hard to make 155, I was celebrating the night of weigh-ins,” Noons (13-8 MMA, 2-2 UFC), who meets Burkman (27-12 MMA, 5-7 UFC) on the FOX Sports 1-televised preliminary card portion of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 82, told MMAjunkie Radio

Stephen Thompson What was once the UFC’s annual Super Bowl weekend pay-per-view extravaganza is now an ordinary fight night. The UFC Fight Night 82 main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on the same channel and UFC Fight Pass at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Originally headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez, Saturday’s event will now see two welterweight contenders collide in a five-round contest when former 170-pound champ Johny Hendricks (17-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC) takes on knockout artist Stephen Thompson (11-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC). Though the card is not particularly strong, UFC fans will be able to witness history when a card originally booked for pay-per-view switches broadcast platform and takes to FOX Sports 1.

Chael Sonnen’s first fight with Anderson Silva, because he bloodied the god Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva, UFC 117 Steven Marrocco: To watch circa 2010 Anderson Silva get thrashed by Chael Sonnen was to see the facade of the sport’s best crack and almost crumble inside 20 minutes. Silva might have drawn the wrath of fans and the UFC for not performing to the best of his abilities a couple times prior to that, but until that August night, those abilities had never been cast into doubt in the octagon.

Thiago Alves and Carlos Condit Given the state of the UFC in 2015, you hear certain phrases on certain Saturday nights that don’t exactly make you optimistic about the action to come. Phrases like “UFC Fight Night” and “sandwiched between two pay-per-view events” and “Goiania, Brazil.” To the seasoned fan of MMA, these combine to conjure up a certain image. You picture anonymous fighters, not-quite primetime-worthy performances, and arduous pacing that laughs at your pathetic attempts to record the event with your DVR. You picture, in other words, what you’re used to getting. Then an event like UFC Fight Night 67 comes along and reminds you that it doesn’t have to be that way. Instead of trying to single out any one performance at the expense of the others, here’s a look at some of the things that made this event a memorable one
