ARES FC’s Karl Amoussou says he’s ‘coming to do dark things’ on MMA return

Former Bellator tournament champion and Cage Warriors welterweight champion Karl Amoussou is back, and he’s determined to make a statement when he returns to the cage. The French-German fighter enjoyed a spectacular seven-fight, seven-finish win streak between 2015 and 2017 that saw him claim six first-round stoppages and capture the Cage Warriors welterweight title. But a unanimous decision defeat to Dominique Steele in his first title defense saw Amoussou (24-9-2) handed his first loss since 2014, and his attempt to bounce back into the win column against Rodrigo Cavalheiro at Brave CF 13 seven months later ended in a knockout defeat. Since then, Amoussou has gone back to the drawing board and rebuilt his team from the ground up. Now, after more than two years away, “Psycho” has signed for ARES FC and is ready to make an impact on his return. “It’s not really a renaissance,” he told ARES TV following his signing.

He didn’t get a belt to show for it, but at least Dominique Steele can say he’s beaten a Cage Warriors titleholder. Despite a rough second round against 170-pound champion Karl Amoussou (24-8-2) in tonight’s Cage Warriors 89 headliner, Steele’s (14-10) solid display in the remainder of the catchweight bout was enough to grant him nods from all three judges. The bout, which streamed on UFC Fight Pass from Lotto Arena in Antwerp, Belgium, was originally supposed to be Amoussou’s first title defense

This month’s Cage Warriors 89 event now has a second title fight. Officials today announced a headlining title fight between welterweight champion Karl Amoussou (24-7-2) and UFC vet Dominique Steele (14-9). Cage Warriors 89 takes place Nov. 25 at Lotto Arena in Antwerp, Belgium. As with all Cage Warriors events, the card streams on UFC Fight Pass following prelims on Facebook, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized. Amoussou, a 31-year-old French-German fighter, is a well-traveled vet who’s competed for Bellator, Strikeforce, DREAM and M-1, among other promotions

Karl Amoussou After the French Sports Ministry effectively banned MMA in the country through increased regulation, one French fighter is taking a stand. Nine-time Bellator veteran Karl Amoussou issued a lengthy statement to MMAjunkie and revealed that he will no longer represent his home nation in competition. A dual citizen, Amoussou said he will now represent Germany moving forward, citing what he considers to be an unfair ban on the sport in France. In a battle of past welterweight tournament winners, Douglas Lima (26-5 MMA, 8-1 BMMA) battered opponent Rick Hawn (18-3 MMA, 10-3 BMMA) en route to claiming Bellator MMA’s vacant welterweight title. The matchup served as the headlining bout of Friday’s Bellator 117 event, which took place at Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The evening’s main card aired on Spike TV following prelims that streamed on Spike.com. The bigger Lima used his range early, striking from distance and setting the tone for the first frame. A low kick late in the round sent Hawn to his back, but Lima chose to back away and bring the action back to the feet
