CSAC hands out formal suspensions to four Bellator 127 fighters

After a quartet of fighters came up positive for banned substances at Bellator 127, the California State Athletic Commission has handed out suspensions. Robert Emerson , Nick Moghaddam , Keith Berry and Fernando Gonzalez all received formal punishments after they failed post-fight drug tests at the Spike TV-televised event, which took place Oct. 3 at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif. CSAC Executive Director Andy Foster told MMAjunkie that UFC vet Emerson (17-11 MMA, 2-1 BMMA), who lost a unanimous decision to Rafael Silva (22-4 MMA, 3-1 BMMA) in a 138-pound catchweight fight, is suspended 270 days and is fined $2,500. Moghaddam (6-8 MMA, 1-2 BMMA), who fell short on points to light heavyweight Ray Sloan (8-0 MMA, 2-0 BMMA), is suspended 300 days for an elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratio of 17:1 – well above the 4:1 ratio allowed by the CSAC – and fined $1,000. Berry (15-13 MMA, 2-3 BMMA), who outpointed middleweight Joe Pacheco (7-2 MMA, 2-2 BMMA) via split decision, is suspended 300 days for an elevated T/E ratio of 16:1 and fined $2,500, in addition to having his win overturned to a no-contest.

On the heels of back-to-back wins using his fists, Bellator welterweight Karo Parisyan is feeling pretty good about his prospects for the future. “You could say that I’m the most dangerous Karo Parisyan ever right now, just because I can throw you, I can submit you or I can knock you out wherever the fight goes,” he told MMAjunkie. “I wouldn’t say I’m a great stand-up guy right now, but I’m a pretty decent striker.” Parisyan, of course, is known as the fighter who brought judo to the UFC, long before women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey made throws popular, and also the fighter who’s struggles with anxiety took him from world-title contender to UFC expat. For a while, it looked like Parisyan was fast headed to pasture. Even his multiple comebacks after his exit from the industry-leader were fraught with disappointments; his debut for Bellator ended in a knockout loss to Rick Hawn, for instance

Bellator’s fifth show of its upcoming 11th season has a location, as well as its first fight. A welterweight bout between Karo Parisyan (24-10 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) and former DREAM champion Marius Zaromskis (20-8 MMA, 4-2 BMMA) has been booked for Bellator 127 in Temecula, Calif. A Bellator official confirmed the fight booking to MMAjunkie on Thursday after it initially was announced by Zaromskis’ home gym, American Kickboxing Academy, on Twitter
