In fact, had the fight gone the distance, there may have been some tense moments waiting for the scorecards to be announced. But Newton changed all that in an instant in the third round. After trying several spinning backfists earlier in the fight, Newton (24-7-1 MMA, 7-1 BMMA) went after it one more time up against the fence. This time, he connected – and stopped Beltran (15-11 MMA, 2-2 BMMA) dead in his tracks, instantly knocking out the veteran fighter to defend his light heavyweight title. Filed under: Bellator , News , Videos Liam McGeary and Kelly Anundson throw down later tonight with much on the line in the Bellator 124 co-main event. The light heavyweights will clash in the promotion’s “Summer Series” tournament final. Right after they go at it, division champ Emanuel Newton puts his title up against Joey Beltran. So the McGeary-Anundson winner could be sitting cageside doing a potentially important bit of scouting. While Bellator is going away from its tournament format where tourney winners book title shots, the winner of tonight’s co-main event still will be in prime position to get a possible title shot. Check out Spike TV’s preview for the fight, which will air tonight during the main card, ahead of the televised event.

Bellator light heavyweight Liam McGeary and Kelly Anundson disagree on who’s walked a tougher road to get to the finals of the promotion’s 2014 Summer Series tournament at Bellator 124. They get to settle things in the cage, of course, but they’re both convinced the other took a shortcut to the event, which takes place Friday at Compuware Arena in Plymouth Township, Mich. (The event’s main card airs live on Spike TV.) Brit McGeary seizes on a recent interview as evidence of his opponent is delusional. “Kelly has to be out of his mind thinking that he had a tougher road to the finals than I did,” McGeary (8-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) told MMAjunkie. “He had a tougher road? He got into the finals because his (semifinal) opponent hurt his f–king knee! How can he turn around and say something like that?

Bellator MMA will return to Michigan next month with the light heavyweight title on the line. Emanuel Newton (23-7-1 MMA, 6-1 BMMA) will make the first defense of his championship when he takes on Joey Beltran (15-10 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) in the main event of Bellator 124.

Christina Tatnell recently had taken her first plane ride, but that wasn’t the reason she was shaking. She was backstage before her first professional fight – her first fight of any kind, actually. The woman who grew up as a sheltered girl in Australia was about to enter the pro stage, and the nerves were taking over in part because she was facing one of the people who inspired her to become a fighter at all. On that night in October 2012, she was going through a change. “(I remember) being in awe of the cameras and the noise of the one thousand plus people in attendance like it was yesterday,” Tatnell told MMAjunkie. Now, her tomorrows are looking brighter.

Bellator MMA heavyweight title challenger Cheick Kongo and champion Vitaly Minakov were the top earners at this past Friday’s Bellator 115 event. MMAjunkie obtained the list of disclosed paydays from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which oversaw Friday’s event at Reno Events Center. The main card aired on Spike TV following prelims on Spike.com. The total disclosed payroll for the event was $154,000
