Then at UFC on ESPN 8 on Saturday, it was about whether referee Dan Miragliotta should’ve stopped it sooner while Walt Harris was swarming Alistair Overeem in the first round – but he didn’t, and Overeem rallied to score a finish of his own. When we see two instances like these, does that underscore the need to cut MMA referees some slack when it comes to appropriate timing of stoppages? Between UFC on ESPN+ 29 and UFC on ESPN 8, we saw a lot of standout performances

Former UFC champion Kevin Randleman to be inducted into UFC Hall of Fame

Kevin Randleman soon will be part of the UFC Hall of Fame. The former UFC heavyweight champion, who died in 2016, will be inducted into the Pioneer Wing of the UFC Hall of Fame later this year. The news was announced during Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 8 broadcast. “Kevin Randleman was one of the first real athletes in the early days of UFC,” UFC president Dana White said in a press release. “He was a two-time NCAA Division-I national champion and All-American wrestler at The Ohio State University

Mauro Ranallo The death of former UFC heavyweight champion and PRIDE superstar Kevin Randleman shocked many in the MMA community. Former PRIDE commentator Mauro Ranallo was one those stunned at his passing, especially because he had seen Randleman’s shocking athleticism up close. Ranallo, a veteran MMA broadcaster who is now a commentator for WWE, was ringside for two of Randleman’s most memorable moments. In the opening round of the 2004 PRIDE Heavyweight Grand Prix, Randleman scored a shocking knockout of heavily favored Mirko Filipovic. He followed that with one of the scariest suplexes in MMA history, dropping tournament favorite Fedor Emelianenko on his head before ultimately being submitted: “For me, Kevin Randleman will always represent some of my most memorable calls back-to-back,” Ranallo told MMAjunkie Radio

Kevin Randleman Kevin Randleman , former UFC heavyweight champion and PRIDE competitor, has died at the age of 44. The UFC announced Randleman’s death due to complications from pneumonia. Bleacher Report’s Jeremy Botter first reported the news on Twitter . “I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of the legend Kevin Randleman,” UFC president Dana White wrote on Facebook and Twitter. Randleman’s family issued a statement on Facebook: “With saddened hearts, the Randleman family confirms the passing of Kevin ‘The Monster’ Randleman. Behind the name was a gentle soul and loyal friend whom will be missed by many who loved him beyond the cage. The sport of MMA suffered a loss tonight when it was revealed that former UFC heavyweight champion Kevin Randleman had passed away at age 44 due to heart failure . Randleman (17-16) had a long career prior to his final fight in 2011. He captured UFC gold in 1999 and went on to take part in memorable fights under the defunct PRIDE banner and various other organizations. “The Monster” was a pioneer of the sport, and the response to his unfortunate death proved as much. Kevin Randleman Kevin Randleman, former UFC heavyweight champion and PRIDE competitor, has reportedly died at the age of 44. Following rumors that Randleman had passed away, Bleacher Report’s Jeremy Botter confirmed the news on Twitter . According to Botter, Randleman went to the hospital with pneumonia before suffering heart failure. Randleman (17-16) was an imposing figure in the cage with a muscular physique and hair that was often dyed platinum blonde. He debuted in the UFC’s trademark octagon with a “Road to the Heavyweight Title” tournament victory over former heavyweight champion Maurice Smith, but fell to Bas Rutten in the finals at UFC 20
