LAS VEGAS – Dana White’s Contender Series 29 took place Tuesday at the UFC Apex and four fighters walked away with UFC contracts afterward. In the main event, Louis Cosce punched his way into the UFC with a 82-second TKO win over two-time DWCS alumnus Victor Reyna . Earlier on the card, Louis’ brother Orion Cosce, the biggest betting underdog on the card, rallied to TKO previously undefeated highly-touted Matt Dixon in the final minute of Round 3. Both brothers earned UFC contracts. Joining the Cosce brothers as the newest members of the UFC was Josh Parisian . Having competed on Dana White’s Contender Series, Season 2 and The Ultimate Fighter 28, Parisian took the long road to the UFC.

Kevin Syler reveals positive COVID-19 test forced withdrawal from Dana White’s Contender Series 27

Kevin Syler is the latest fighter to test positive for COVID-19. The unbeaten prospect was supposed to headline Dana White’s Contender Series 27 on Tuesday in a lightweight contest against Kenny Cross. The event is scheduled to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and it’s now being headlined by Ty Flores vs. Dustin Jacoby. Syler’s withdrawal at the time of MMA Junkie’s report remained unknown, but the Bolivian fighter took to Facebook to announce it was due to a positive for coronavirus. “I must announce my withdrawal from my fight August 4th,” Syler wrote on a statement on Facebook

Kevin Syler won’t have his chance at redemption in the Dana White’s Contender Series, Season 4 premiere Tuesday. The Bolivian lightweight has withdrawn from the DWCS 27 main event against Kenny Cross , which was scheduled to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. No reason for Syler’s withdrawal is known at this time. Multiple people with knowledge of the situation informed MMA Junkie of the news Wednesday but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

LAS VEGAS – UFC president Dana White said he continues to be impressed with the attitude and approach of the fighters at the Contender Series after the latest installment of the talent-finding series yielded four more signings. Antonio Arroyo , Ode Osbourne , Don’Tale Mayes and Brendan Allen all earned UFC deals after claiming impressive stoppage victories at the UFC Apex on Tuesday night, and White said he felt there could be little argument over the quartet he chose to sign. “If you look at the guys I took today… how do you not take these guys?” he asked reporters, including MMA Junkie, after the fights. “They all looked good.” The signings saw two complete newcomers – Osbourne and Allen – earn deals, while two fighters making return appearances at the Contender Series – Arroyo and Mayes – made the adjustments White was looking for to earn themselves contract offers. “What we’re looking for when guys come back is did you go back to the drawing board? The night’s featured contest takes place in the middleweight division, with LFA and Cage Fury Fighting Championships veteran Stephen Regman (9-3) against Antonio Arroyo (8-2), who was victorious at this past August’s Dana White’s Contender Series Brazil 1 event but did not secure a UFC deal. Nine of the 10 fighters on the card made weight without issue. However, Kevin Syler (8-0) came in at 152.5 pounds for his scheduled featherweight contest with Lance Lawrence (5-0) and was fined 30 percent of his purse for the infraction, but the bout will go on as scheduled.
