  The UFC returns to pay-per-view for the eighth time this year on Saturday night as ”UFC 163: Aldo vs. Korean Zombie” goes down at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. There have been several injury-ridden cards in 2013, but UFC 163 takes the cake. The original main event, as well as several main- and preliminary-card bouts, were changed in the weeks leading up to the event. Fortunately, the UFC’s lone undisputed Brazilian champion made it through training camp in one piece. Featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo (22-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) looks to extend his remarkable winning streak to 13-0 since joining the Zuffa ranks in 2008 when he puts his belt on the line for a fifth time in the UFC, this time against Chan Sung Jung (13-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC).

UFC President Dana White promised the world that new UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman (10-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) and former kingpin Anderson Silva (33-5 MMA, 16-1 UFC) would meet again. Now it’s official. The UFC boss today revealed on ESPN’s SportsCenter that both Weidman and Silva have agreed to meet on Dec. 28 in the headlining bout of a previously announced UFC 168 event, which takes place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. The night’s main card, including the Weidman vs. Silva rematch, airs on pay-per-view.

LAS VEGAS – Anderson Silva bobbed, weaved and clowned his way to the first loss of his UFC career. The now-former UFC middleweight champion showed little respect to opponent Chris Weidman, who entered Saturday’s UFC 162 pay-per-view headliner as one of the smallest underdogs of Silva’s long title reign. As a result, MMA’s pound-for-pound kingpin and arguably the greatest fighter in the sport’s history gave away the fight as much as Weidman won it. In front of a stunned crowd at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, Silva (33-5 MMA, 16-1 UFC) dropped his hands, dared Weidman (10-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) to take a swing, and laughed off the challenger’s attempts. That was all well and good through the first round, when Silva escaped from an early takedown and heel-hook attempt to get back to his feet and deliver some late-round leg kicks. Middleweight title challenger Chris Weidman would fight Jon Jones – if the UFC asked him. “I mean, I’ve got to beat Anderson (Silva) first,” the undefeated Weidman (9-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) said during a media teleconference in support of his headliner against Silva (33-4 MMA, 16-0 UFC) at next week’s UFC 162 event. “That’s the first big step. Whatever the UFC fans and UFC want to do and the fight they want to see, I’m definitely willing to do.” To be clear, nobody is yet asking Weidman to step up in weight to fight the light heavyweight champ Jones, which is what Silva is expected to do if he’s victorious on July 6 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. (Jones, too, has to make it past Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 in September.) Weidman’s chances aren’t as bad as some who’ve faced the middleweight kingpin, as betting lines indicate.

Middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva claims he doesn’t even have Dana White’s digits, let alone the desire to lobby for a fight with Jon Jones . During a media teleconference today in support of UFC 162, Silva denied that he called the UFC president post-UFC 159 to request his next opponent, which White then hinted to be the light-heavy champ. “I think everyone already knows that I didn’t call Dana,” Silva (33-4 MMA, 16-0 UFC) said. “I don’t even have his phone number personally.” That’s news to White, who today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Silva did call him following the April 27 event in Newark, N.J.
