The Brazilian fighter, although a former champion in KSW, was not a known commodity when he joined RIZIN in 2020. Asakura, already 8-1 in the promotion at the time, was left unconscious when he met the jiu-jitsu ace in the main event of RIZIN 28 at the iconic Tokyo Dome.

Pitbull signed with the promotion after parting ways with PFL and will make his debut as a full-time RIZIN fighter two years after they both had a locker room brawl during Super RIZIN 2. On July 29, 2023, Patricky knocked out Koike’s teammate Roberto Satoshi .

Rizin and Bellator’s best will go head to head on New Year’s Eve. During a press conference Wednesday in Japan, both promotions announced that Rizin 40 will take place Dec. 31 at Saitama Super Arena just outside Tokyo.
