Japanese promotion Rizin FF crowned their first featherweight champion at Rizin FF 25 as Yutaka Saito claimed the inaugural 145-pound title in Osaka, Japan after snapping Mikuru Asakura ’s three-year winning streak. Asakura (13-2) settled into his strikes early and connected with a succession of body kicks from the southpaw stance, as well as a well-timed knee to the body as Saito (19-4-2) stepped in to close the distance. But Asakura’s early momentum came to a halt when a thumping kick to Saito’s groin brought the bout to a stop as the referee allowed the injured fighter time to fully recover. When the action resumed, Asakura went straight back to his body kick and connected hard with Saito’s midsection, while Saito struggled to find his range with his own strikes

The Rizin FF ring lands in Osaka, Japan, with the promotion’s featherweight title up for grabs in the main event. The 145-pound strap will be contested between two explosive contenders as Mikuru Asakura (13-1), brother of current Rizin FF bantamweight champion Kai, will look to add a second title to the family collection when he takes on former two-time Shooto featherweight champion Yutaka Saito (18-4-2). The fight card in Japan features six MMA bouts in total, with bantamweight contenders Hiromasa Ogikubo (20-5-2) and Kenta Takizawa (11-5) set to face off in the co-main event looking to earn a shot at the title in 2021, while former ONE lightweight champion Kotetsu Boku (26-15-2) returns to action against Rikuto Shirakawa (8-8-1). Japanese featherweight star Mikuru Asakura produced a crowd-pleasing finish to defeat Mexico’s Daniel Salas in their 150-pound bout at Rizin FF 21 in Shizuoka, Japan, then received an unexpected callout from a former champion. Salas mixed up his strikes well in the opening round and looked to use his jab and reach to work from range, but was countered with stiff, crisp southpaw shots from Asakura, whose punches looked much more solid than those of the Mexican. That power advantage was evident in the final seconds of the round when Asakura first connected with a head kick, then landed a powerful right hand that briefly stunned Salas.
