There’s no questioning that Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger are two of the top welterweight fighters in the world. They’re also the top two UFC 170-pounders that haven’t fought or aren’t scheduled to fight for the championship belt currently wrapped around the waist of Georges St-Pierre. That could change following their fight at UFC on Fox 8 on Saturday night. Nearly everyone is pointing to the fight as a de facto No. 1 contender elimination bout, including UFC president Dana White . “I would have to say that the guy who wins this fight is definitely in line for the next shot,” White told Inside MMA’s Ron Kruck on Friday.

With tonight’s UFC on FOX 8 welterweight co-headliner between Jake Ellenberger and Rory MacDonald being billed as a title eliminator, the UFC seemingly could have a problem on its hands since MacDonald and current UFC champion Georges St-Pierre are training partners. UFC President Dana White, though, scoffs at that notion. “I’m going to ask you a question,” White told “Inside MMA” reporter Ron Kruck on Friday. “[MacDonald] basically lives in Georges St-Pierre’s house, meaning he trains there in his training facility. He lives in Montreal, Canada. Georges St-Pierre says nothing but good things about this guy. What’s he going to do

Global Warrior Challenge finalizes ‘British Invasion’ fight card, broadcast team

Global Warrior Challenge holds its inaugural event on Saturday with a pay-per-view pitting Americans against fighters from the U.K. The 11-fight card has been finalized, and the promotion also has set its broadcast team for the show, featuring a pair of well-known veteran commentators and a former UFC champion. Ron Kruck, Karyn Bryant and Jens Pulver will be in the booth for “Global Warrior Challenge: British Invasion” on Saturday at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. The event is available via pay-per-view for $29.95. Tickets also are available, ranging between $37 and $102, with the first fight set to go at 7:30 p.m. CT. The plan is for Global Warrior Challenge to host a series of country-vs.-country fight cards, though plans for future shows have not yet been announced
