In his last fight at UFC 159 in April, Jon Jones suffered a horrific injury during his victory over Chael Sonnen . He dislocated his big toe, which looked like something out of a horror film, the bone poking through his skin, his toe dangling from his foot. That was nearly five months ago, and Jones now says that he – and his toe – is good to go for Saturday’s UFC 165 main event.

Leonard Garcia Aiming for UFC Return, but Can’t Look Past Nick Gonzalez at Legacy FC 23

The last fight on Ben Askren ‘s Bellator MMA deal is in the books, and the promotion’s welterweight champion delivered yet again with perhaps his most dominant performance to date. Now CEO Bjorn Rebney finds himself in a position he’s been in before – hoping to keep one of his champions rather than lose him to the competition. Rebney on Wednesday confirmed to MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) that Askren’s win over Andrey Koreshkov at this past week’s Bellator 97 card was the last fight on his current deal. Rebney also said he’s unsure of what steps the promotion will take in negotiations with Askren (12-0 MMA, 9-0 BMMA), who has a standard exclusive negotiating period with Bellator built into his deal before he can seek offers from other promotions. In the past, as was the case with former lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez , Rebney waived the exclusive period and let Alvarez test the market early. He got an offer from the UFC, Bellator attempted to match it and now the entire case is tied up in the legal system with Alvarez’s side saying Bellator’s counter-offer was not a true match

Phil Davis On UFC 163 Bout with Lyoto Machida: “I’m Going to Win This Fight”

UFC light heavyweight Phil Davis hopes to finish former titleholder Lyoto Machida at UFC 163 and move next in line to fight for the 205-pound championship. Davis (11-1, 1 no contest) is ranked seventh in the official UFC Fighter Rankings . Machida (19-3) is considered the top contender in the division. Fresh Off UFC on Fox 8 Victory, Jorge Masvidal Agrees to Fight Rustam Khabilov in November

Just a couple days removed from his last fight, Jorge Masvidal already has his next bout lined up. Masvidal will meet Rustam Khabilov, likely on Nov. 6 on Fox Sports 1, according to a UFC Tonight report on Tuesday. UFC president Dana White has stated that Nov. 6 is the target date for the promotion’s next UFC Fight for the Troops event. It would be the promotion’s third such event, which is typically used as a fundraiser for charities that benefit members of the military and their families. Masvidal (25-7) is fresh off of his second-round victory over Michael Chiesa at Saturday’s UFC on Fox 8 event in Seattle.

It’s Business as Usual for Demetrious Johnson Heading into Second UFC Title Defense

Every fighter has his own unique way of preparing for a fight. Some scout their opponents and watch hours of video. Some bring in training partners to simulate their opponent’s style. UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson doesn’t do any of that. Johnson (17-2-1) was originally expected to face John Moraga on April 13, but a shoulder injury pushed back the bout to the UFC on Fox 8 fight card on July 27. Now healed, Johnson is ready for his second UFC title defense. “Recovery has gone great. Once I got cleared from a doctor to start training again, I started training,” Johnson said on a recent media conference call . “I’m feeling great; shoulder’s feeling 100-percent, and just ready to do work.” Moraga (13-1) is on a seven-fight winning streak and possesses solid wrestling and good boxing, but Johnson doesn’t feel that Moraga brings anything to the table that he hasn’t already faced. “My last fight I fought, I think he’s probably one of the guys in the division that has that one-strike knockout power where he drops guys, and you’ve seen him do it all the time. I’m speaking of John Dodson. John Moraga possesses great skills. He throws great combinations, but as far as me, when it comes to my training and preparing for fighters or fights, we don’t bring anybody in to emulate my opponent. We don’t go out and seek information on my opponent,” said Johnson. “We just train hard. I believe in my training partners and my coaching, and that’s what we’ve done and it hasn’t let us down yet.” Johnson doesn’t worry about what his opponent is going to do or what he does best. His only concern is becoming a better fighter.

Former Invicta Champ Jessica Penne Not Worried About Title Shots, Just Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc

function not found Looking back on her Invicta FC atomweight title loss to Michelle Waterson in April, Jessica Penne feels it was a mistake to even accept the fight given her circumstances heading into the bout. “In all honesty, I should have not taken the last fight,” she said. “I was not able to train the way I normally train for a fight. I wasn’t as sharp as I needed to be going into that fight and it showed. “I’m a competitor and I don’t believe in backing out of fights, however, I will in the future if I’m unable to train for a fight. I let my competitiveness and my pride get in the way and I didn’t want to back out of the fight… and I needed the money. All those things add up. I would have done things differently if I were given another chance.” Even with the loss, Penne (10-2) chooses to look at the positives of the situation.
