He takes on his biggest named opponent and toughest test to date at UFC Fight Night 26: Shogun vs. Sonnen on Saturday in Alistair Overeem . During the lead-up to the event – that coincides with the launch of the Fox Sports 1 channel – Overeem has said that his experience is going to play a big factor in the fight. The bout with Browne will be Overeem’s fiftieth mixed martial arts fight. He also has fourteen kickboxing bouts, including winning the 2010 K-1 World Grand Prix. It’s been one of the worst kept secrets in TV land, but Fuel TV is officially going to get the re-branding treatment on Aug. 17 when parent company Fox launches Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2. The promotional focus has been almost entirely on the launch of Fox Sports 1, which itself is a re-branding of Fox’s Speed Channel. Fox Sports 2 has been getting the soft launch treatment, since it plays a supporting role to Fox Sports 1’s lead. Just as it has been under the Fuel TV brand, Fox Sports 2, however, will continue to be a bastion of UFC programming from live fights to weigh-ins to UFC Ultimate Insider and more

A welterweight contest between two fighters looking for their first UFC win is the latest addition to September’s UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 event, as Sean Spencer (9-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) meets Yuri Villefort (6-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC). UFC officials today announced the new matchup. Featuring a light heavyweight headliner between Ryan Bader and Glover Teixeira , UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 takes place Sept. 4 and will serve as the lead-in to the new season of “The Ultimate Fighter.” The event will be the promotion’s return to Belo Horizonte, Brazil, after first visiting for UFC 147, which also took place at Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond one year ago. The evening’s main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on Facebook. The positioning of the Spencer vs. Villefort was not revealed but would seem a likely candidate for the preliminary bouts. Spencer makes his second UFC appearance after falling short against Rafael Natal on short notice at January’s UFC on FOX 6 event

LAS VEGAS – After taking a half-dozen vicious kicks to the body and legs, Rafaello Oliveira knew he needed to get Edson Barboza to the mat. Unfortunately for him, Barboza was in no mood to grapple. By the second round, he could no longer stand, and Barboza took home the TKO. The lightweight bout was part of today’s UFC 162 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It aired on FX following additional prelims on Facebook and ahead of a main card on pay-per-view. The fight’s stoppage came at the 1:44 of the second frame, though it might have ended at the end of the first, when Oliveira’s leg began to bleed from over 20 of Barboza’s kicks. In the opening frame, Barboza might even have landed the wheel kick that knocked out Terry Etim at UFC 142 (and earned him an ESPY nomination) had Oliveira not slightly ducked. The move wasn’t enough to save him, however, from the onslaught of shins to his body and lead leg.

For Shields (28-6-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC), he got the nod after a close fight against Tyron Woodley (11-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) a week ago at UFC 161. And just like most fighters the moment they realize it’s about to be a split decision when Bruce Buffer has to break out who got what score, Shields thought maybe it wasn’t going to go his way – even though, as he said, he thought he did enough
