Legacy FC 27 kicked off its 2014 season on Friday with some notable names, including UFC vet Tim Means and Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo . The event, which aired on AXS TV from Houston’s Arena Theatre, saw no shortage of action. After a few crowd-pleasing bouts to open the night’s broadcast, the co-headliners featured some familiar names. Check out the highlights as Cejudo looked to overcome weight-cutting and commission issues for his fight with flyweight Elias Garcia , and in his second post-UFC fight, Means met durable welterweight Artenas Young . Welterweight striker Tim Means (20-5-1) is now 2-0 since his UFC release after earning a quick stoppage win over Artenas Young (10-7). The bout served as the main event of Friday’s Legacy Fighting Championship 27 event, which took place at Houston’s Arena Theatre and aired on AXS TV. The two engaged quickly on the feet, with both looking to establish range in the early going. As Young looked to open with a straight punch, a Means knee scored flush, and Young dropped to a kneeling position

After missing weight, Olympian Henry Cejudo’s Legacy FC future now uncertain

After missing weight for his second straight Legacy FC fight, Henry Cejudo ‘s future in the organization appears uncertain. During Thursday’s weigh-ins, Cejudo (5-0) was two-and-a-half pounds heavy for his co-headliner with flyweight Elias Garcia (4-0) at Legacy FC 27, which airs tonight on AXS TV from Houston’s Arena Theatre. Legacy FC promoter Mick Maynard told MMAjunkie that the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has fined Cejudo, who has forfeited half his purse, for the infraction. Additionally, the commission is expected to suspend the 2008 Olympic gold-medal wrestler between 90 and 180 days for being a late arrival to Thursday’s weigh-ins. Unfortunately, it’s not his first weight issue since Cejudo moved to MMA a year ago. He also no-showed weigh-ins back in November, and officials were forced to scrap his Legacy FC 25 co-headliner with Saul Elizondo on the eve of the event.

Fight Path: Coast Guard vet Elias Garcia meets Olympic gold medalist at tonight’s Legacy FC 27

Elias Garcia had been through U.S. Coast Guard boot camp, as well as search and rescue in Louisiana, following Hurricane Katrina to start a military career that continued with some high-intensity situations in the coming years. Then, the worst thing possible for a man like that happened: He was rotated to a desk job. Garcia had spent years training for a military career. Becoming a father as a teenager had helped him focus that goal after a few distractions.
