Jason Sampson With a single split-decision defeat as the only blemish on his professional record, some might be surprised to see Jason Sampson dropping from his regular home of bantamweight down to make his flyweight debut at Legacy FC 38. The decision to test out a new, lighter division appears to have come as a bit of a shock even to Sampson (11-1) who faces Joseph Sandoval (7-4) in Friday’s co-main event at Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas. The main card airs on AXS TV. “I wrestled 125 in high school, so I don’t know why I’m 32 years old, dropping down to 125 again,” Sampson told MMAjunkie Radio. “Training camp is the hardest part of my job. I’ve been training hard, the weight should be coming off, and I’ve been becoming smaller as a ’35er

Augusto Mendes hopes Legacy FC 38 win leads to bantamweight title shot

Brazil’s Augusto Mendes , like many fighters, has title aspirations. And he believes one more win just might get him a shot at a belt. Mendes (3-0) meets Evan Martinez (4-0) on Friday night at Legacy FC 38. And though he’s young in his pro career, Mendes believes a victory might have him going after Legacy’s vacant 135-pound title.

Caio Machado Friday’s Legacy FC 38 event represents a shot for 21-year-old Caio Machado to get his career back on track. Machado (5-1) suffered the first loss of his career this past June when Thomas Almeida (17-0) stopped him with a body shot. It was the win that got Almeida a call-up to the UFC while the young Machado had to go back to the drawing board.

After UFC release, Anthony Njokuani booked for Legacy FC 38

Anthony Njokuani After a lengthy 15-fight run with the UFC and WEC, Anthony Njokuani has received his walking papers and found a new home. Legacy FC promoter and owner Mick Maynard today told MMAjunkie he’s signed the 34-year-old fighter to a multi-bout deal. Terms of the contract weren’t disclosed
