Cyborg all but had her way with Leslie Smith for the majority of their championship main event before winning by TKO at the 4:51 mark of Round 5 to retain her women’s featherweight title. The title fight was a rematch of a 2016 UFC bout in which Cyborg (24-2 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) stopped Smith (12-9-1 MMA, 2-3 BMMA) in the first round. The bout was contested at a 140-pound catchweight, and it marked Cyborg’s debut with the UFC

The first meeting at UFC 198 resulted in an 81-second TKO for Cyborg. And because Cyborg has been mostly dominant since then, including a UFC women’s featherweight title reign and her current status as Bellator’s 145-pound champion, the presumption might be she’s got the upper hand when the two rematch at Bellator 259. UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Leslie Smith has taken a stand against police brutality and systemic racism. Following her win over Amanda Bell at Bellator 245 this past Friday, Smith expressed concern over the recent deaths Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, both whom died at the hands of police earlier this year. Taylor, a Black woman, was killed by police officers in Louisville who reportedly were executing a so-called no-knock search warrant at her home. Police were investigating a suspected drug dealer, and Taylor’s home was part of a search warrant because of her past relationship with the suspect. When Taylor’s boyfriend reportedly opened fire on police after they used a battering ram to enter the house, the three officers fired back and killed Taylor in the process.

The first night of Bellator’s back-to-back events later this month has a new women’s featherweight bout on the bill. Amanda Bell (7-6 MMA, 3-2 BMMA) will take on Leslie Smith (11-8-1 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) at Bellator 245. MMA Junkie confirmed the booking with a Bellator official following an initial report from Sherdog.com . Bellator 245 takes place Sept. 11 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., where Bellator has been holding every-other-week events the past several weeks during the COVID-19 era.
