Video: The weigh-in for tonight’s LFA 1 headliner was ridiculous – in a good way

LFA makes its debut tonight, and the headliners apparently couldn’t be more excited. LFA 1, the inaugural event after 2016’s Legacy FC and RFA merger , takes place tonight at The Bomb Factory in Dallas, and the main card airs on AXS TV. In the featured attraction, final RFA bantamweight champion Leandro Higo (16-2) and final Legacy FC 135-pound titleholder Steven Peterson (14-4) each weighed 134 pounds for their title fight, which earns the winner the inaugural LFA bantamweight belt. Higo actually shaved his head prior to the weigh-ins: And boy oh boy, the fighters were surely pumped up for that weigh-in.

Such was the case today for LFA 1 headliner Leandro Higo (16-2). Higo, from Brazil, passed on video to MMAjunkie showing a brand-new haircut he got today – just so he could hit the 135-pound limit for his main event against Steven Peterson (14-4). “My body had reached its limit,” Higo said in the video. “I had to get this beautiful haircut. (Striking coach) Thiago Tourao gave me the idea, and it worked.

LFA 1′s Eli Tamez is the hairdresser who loves ‘breaking people’ inside a cage

Eli Tamez is one of countless fighters who works multiple jobs. He gets to enjoy a luxury most others don’t, though, in that MMA is secondary to his career as a hairdresser, and he’s happy to keep it that way. Tamez, who fights Friday at LFA 1, is as dedicated to the sport as any of his peers, but it’s not his only focus, he said. He’s been cutting hair since well before he threw his first punch, and regardless of how successful he becomes as a fighter, he said he won’t leave his greatest passion. “I started cutting hair when I was in seventh grade,” Tamez told MMAjunkie.

After Legacy FC-RFA merger, debut LFA event slated for Jan. 13 with title-unification bout

The new LFA promotion will make its debut on Jan. 13 in Texas. Officials today announced LFA 1, the first event since Legacy FC and RFA merged earlier this year, takes place at The Bomb Factory in Dallas. As with all LFA cards, the main card airs on AXS TV. A bantamweight title-unification bout between final Legacy FC champion Steven Peterson (14-4) and RFA titleholder Leandro Higo (16-2) headlines the card. “I’m excited to kick off 2017 with the inaugural LFA event in Texas,” LFA CEO Ed Soares stated
