Just when you thought one gogoplata might be enough to lock up “Submission of the Month,” Andrew Tenneson threw his name into the hat at LFA 66. Tenneson (8-1) pulled off a spectacular finish using the rare submission in his featherweight matchup with Westin Wilson (6-4) at Friday’s event, which took place at Maverik Center in Salt Lake City. Check out the highlight of the finish below (via Twitter ): Although it comes on the regional level, Tenneson’s submission rivals that of former Bellator champ Brent Primus, who pulled off a first-round gogoplata finis h of his own at Bellator Europe 2 this month. LFA is Utah on Friday night, and a featherweight on a roll is part of the show. Andrew Tenneson (7-1) takes on Westin Wilson (7-3) in a featured bout on the main card at LFA 66, which takes place at Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah, near Salt Lake City. The main card airs on AXS TV. Tenneson has won four straight fights, including back-to-back bouts under the LFA banner. In his promotional debut in 2017, he needed just 49 seconds to take out Andrew Yates with a brutal guillotine choke at LFA 10. Just past his 39th birthday, veteran fighter Josh Burkman adds another promotion to his long resume Friday night. Burkman (28-17), who had 18 fights in the UFC (plus a no-contest), takes on William Macario (9-4), also a UFC vet, in the LFA 66 welterweight co-main event in front of his home-state fans. LFA 66 takes place at Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah, near Salt Lake City. The main card airs on AXS TV. Burkman went 6-12 over two tenures with the UFC. The product of Season 2 of “The Ultimate Fighter” went 5-5 in his first stint with the promotion and found himself trying to get back after a three-fight skid in 2008.

UFC vets Josh Burkman, William Macario meet in LFA 66 co-main event

A pair of UFC veterans will square off in a welterweight fight when LFA returns to Utah next month. Josh Burkman (28-17) is set to take on William Macario (9-4) in the LFA 66 co-main event, the promotion today announced. LFA 66 takes place May 10 at Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah, near Salt Lake City. The main card airs on AXS TV. “I am excited to announce that Utah MMA pioneer and longtime UFC star Josh Burkman will return to action in the co-main event of LFA 66,” LFA CEO Ed Soares stated. “Burkman made his pro debut in Utah over 16 years ago and has gone on to become one of the most successful and respected fighters in the state’s impressive combat sports history.” Burkman went 6-12 over two tenures with the UFC.
