UFC 305 also saw Dan Hooker and Carlos Prates shine by picking up impressive wins over Mateusz Gamrot and Li Jingliang , while Tai Tuivasa fell to a five-fight losing skid, among other results. UFC welterweight Carlos Prates can celebrate his birthday in grand fashion after passing the toughest test of his career thus far. Prates (20-6 MMA, 3-0 UFC) stepped into the octagon at UFC 305 at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, to take on Li Jingliang in the pay-per-view opener. After thrilling end to Round 1, Prates put the finishing touch on Jingliang (19-9 MMA, 11-7 UFC) with a vicious walkoff knockout at 4:02 in Round 2. Big punches from Prates landed late in Round 1, as he rocked Jingliang more than once. “The Leech” who is known for having a tough chin, continued to fire back to see the next frame.

Michael Chiesa has a fight on the books for the first time since November 2021. Friday during “UFC Live,” Chiesa (16-6 MMA, 11-6 UFC) announced he will fight Li Jingliang (19-8 MMA, 11-6 UFC) at UFC 287 , a pay-per-view event expected for April 8 at a location and venue yet-to-be-determined. Jingliang, 34, has alternated wins and losses over the span of his past six fights with a 3-3 record. Following a knockout of Muslim Salikhov in July, Jingliang lost a closely-contested split decision against Daniel Rodriguez at UFC 279 in September, a matchup he accepted in less than 48-hour notice. Chiesa, 35, looks to snap a two-fight skid, which includes losses top competition in Vicente Luque and Sean Brady.

You would expect rankings to be questionable as they are subjective; however, in this column, I will point out rankings that I think are glaring mistakes. I will also analyze significant movement in the rankings that I agree with. Editorial Commentary by Peter Parsons With the unprecedented last-minute shuffling of the top three fights on the UFC 279 card this past weekend, Li Jingliang agreed to fight Daniel Rodriguez at a catchweight of 180 pounds. This was despite the fact that Jingliang already weighed in at 170.5 pounds for his scheduled welterweight fight with Tony Ferguson. Meanwhile, Rodriguez had weighed in at 179 pounds for his scheduled catchweight fight with Kevin Holland . Rodriguez defeated Jingliang by a controversial split decision and went on to take the Chinese fighter’s UFC welterweight ranking.
