Ryan Bader: I’m Ready to Go Out There and Upset Glover and the UFC’s Plans for Him

Light heavyweights Glover Teixeira and Ryan Bader were originally expected to meet at UFC 160 on May 25, but a knee injury forced Bader out of the fight. Teixeira defeated Bader’s replacement, James Te Huna, by submission that night, but now that Bader is healthy, the two will finally face off at UFC Fight Night 28 on Wednesday. While Teixeira had to change his focus to Te Huna, Bader’s focus remained on Teixeira, and he believes that is an advantage. “We were thinking about him long before and he had to switch it up and think about Te Huna, so we’ve been having a long training camp for him. At least thinking about him for when I healed up and started training again and getting back at it, it was for Glover,” Bader told MMAWeekly content partner Knockout Radio

The war of words between UFC light heavyweights Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva has been in full swing since Sonnen’s victory over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at the inaugural UFC on FOX Sports 1 event in Boston earlier this month. Moments after defeating Shogun – a former training partner of Silva’s – Sonnen took to the post-fight microphone and had a few words for “The Axe Murderer.” “Wanderlei Silva, 6-feet tall, 205 pounds; boy, until I met you, I didn’t know they could stack crap that high,” he yelled into the microphone. “Wanderlei Silva, three months, you and the bad guy.” Sonnen then strolled out of the cage and the MMA world was set a blaze with another fiery promo from the “Gangster from West Linn.” Silva, who apparently wanted the fight as well, was game for the showdown and made it very clear that he wanted the fight.

TUF 19 Tryouts Announced for Middleweights and Light Heavyweights in Inidanapolis

The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rousey vs. Team Tate has yet to premiere on Fox Sports 1, but the UFC is already working on the season eighteen follow-up. UFC officials on Wednesday announced tryouts for TUF 19 would focus on middleweight (185-pound) and light heavyweight (205-pound) fighters. The initial tryouts will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 27, in Indianapolis, ahead of the next day’s UFC Fight Night 27: Condit vs. Kampmann 2 event at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Open fighter tryouts for Season 19 of “The Ultimate Fighter” are slated for Aug. 27 in Indianapolis, with 185- and 205-pound fighters invited. Middleweights also were featured on Season 17 of the show, which was coached by light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former middleweight and light heavyweight title challenger Chael Sonnen . But the last time light heavyweights were contestants on the show was Season 8, which was coached by Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Frank Mir , with Ryan Bader emerging as the winner. Indianapolis’ Westin Hotel will host the tryouts for the show, which is expected to begin filming in early 2014 for a broadcast later that spring on FOX Sports 1.
