The Bellator MMA Welterweight Tournament Final between Ben Saunders and Douglas Lima will take place along with the opening rounds of the Fall Welterweight Tournament and a full card of Phoenix’s top-talent.

This time, Bellator MMA’s big news didn’t drop on live TV. No painstakingly slow reveal. No cut to the silhouetted figure at the top of the ramp. No sound tech with his eager finger hovering over whatever button it is that makes that one Eminem song start up again. This one was relatively quiet , at least when compared to that other one . And yet the news that Eddie Alvarez is back with Bellator and the rematch with Michael Chandler is officially a go for November seems so much more important, like something that might actually give Bellator’s grand pay-per-view experiment a fighting chance. When Bellator announced that Tito Ortiz would be joining the company to face Quinton Jackson on its first pay-per-view card, it felt a little like when your two friends who are totally wrong for and utterly toxic to one another gather everyone together to announce that they’re having a baby

SEATTLE – It’s only been two fights, but it’s hard to argue when Dana White talks about the old Robbie Lawler vs. the new Robbie Lawler. Lawler (21-9 MMA, 6-3 UFC) on Saturday knocked out Bobby Voelker (24-10 MMA, 0-2 UFC) with a vicious head kick early in the second round at UFC on FOX 8 at KeyArena Seattle. It was just his second fight since returning to welterweight after a long run at middleweight. But those two fights – the latter of which came on live national TV on FOX – have been impressive enough to already have folks talking about where he fits in in the welterweight title picture. Sure, at 5-5 in his past 10 – 3-5 in Strikeforce, including a 185-pound title fight loss to Ronaldo Souza in 2011 – few are saying he should be next in line.
