Cage Warriors plans women’s divisions in four weight classes

The England-based Cage Warriors Fighting Championship, fresh off its latest event in its home country, is planning to ramp up its women’s talent base in a major way. Sources close to the promotion on Monday told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Cage Warriors is building women’s divisions at 105, 115, 125 and 135 pounds. A formal announcement from the promotion is expected later today. Cage Warriors is no stranger to women’s fights, but the promotion has not had one since June, when Joanne Calderwood stopped Sally Krumdiack with a first-round TKO at Cage Warriors 53 in Glasgow, Scotland. Calderwood, who was 2-0 for Invicta FC at the time, then went on to another Invicta win earlier this month. The source said Cage Warriors hopes to have at least 10 fighters in each of the four divisions, and already has started signing fighters for upcoming events. A middleweight bout between Norman Paraisy (11-3-2) and Leeroy Barnes (12-10) is the final bout added to next month’s Cage Warriors 57 main card. Cage Warriors 57 takes place July 20 at Echo Arena in Liverpool, England. The main card streams on MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) following prelims on Facebook. Aside from Ronnie Mann ‘s opponent, who will be announced next week, the main card is now set. Paraisy, a French fighter, previously competed for Bellator and had a short stint on “The Ultimate Fighter 11.” He recently returned to Cage Warriors in June and fought former champion Chris Fields to a majority draw. Barnes, meanwhile, makes his promotional debut after recently signing a five-fight deal with the promotion. Cage Warriors’ return to Liverpool, England, has started to take shape with the card’s first five fights. On the main card of Cage Warriors 57, Danny Roberts (8-1) meets Mauro Chimento (15-10) at welterweight; Lee Chadwick (16-10-1) takes on Mats Nilsson (10-2-1) at middleweight; and at featherweight, Chris Fishgold (8-0) faces Marcin Wrzosek (6-1).
