A fighter who competed on Dana White’s Contender Series was handed a hefty suspension Tuesday stemming from a failed drug test and lack of participation in the sanctioning process. Lorenzo Hood , a World Series of Fighting alumnus who competed Oct. 12 in a DWCS loss to Martin Buday , was suspended two years and fined $1,989 ($1,500 fine, plus $489 in legal fees) after he tested positive for anabolic steroid methenolone during a Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) urine test.

In the featured bout, featherweight prospects clash with Arizona’s Reyes Cortez (5-1) taking on undefeated Roufusport MMA product Christian Rodriguez (5-0), who was heavy at 137.25 pounds despite being given an additional hour to make weight. LAS VEGAS – MMA Junkie was on scene and reporting live from Monday’s official Dana White’s Contender Series 43 fighter weigh-ins, where two fighters failed to make weight for their contests. Dana White’s Contender Series cards see prospects fighting for the opportunity to sign a UFC deal, with UFC president Dana White on hand to make the decisions. In the featured bout, featherweight prospects clash with Arizona’s Reyes Cortez (5-1) taking on undefeated Roufusport MMA product Christian Rodriguez (5-0), who was heavy at 137.25 pounds despite being given an additional hour to make weight. Undefeated Cage Warriors champ Jake Hadley (7-0) was also over the limit for his flyweight contest with Mitch Raposo (5-0), coming in at 127 pounds on his second attempt. Both Rodriguez and Hadley were fined 20 percent of their purse, but the lineup will go on as scheduled

Dana White’s Contender Series returns to action next week, and the organization is looking for a name to help fill the lineup. MMA Junkie today confirmed with a person with knowledge of the decision that Lorenzo Hood (12-4) has been forced to withdraw from next week’s Dana White’s Contender Series 37 event, and the organization is currently seeking a new opponent for Polish heavyweight Lukasz Brzeski (8-1-1). The person requested anonymity because the promotion has not yet made a formal announcement. The debut episode of the fifth season of the prospects-based series, Dana White’s Contender Series 37 takes place Aug. 31 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card streams live on ESPN+, with athletes looking to secure UFC deals through their performances on the night

Full WSOF 31 prelim lineup set with pair of heavyweight bouts featured

WSOF 31 now has a complete preliminary card set the promotion announced seven bouts. The prelims will feature some big men as Lorenzo Hood (9-3) takes on Tyler King (10-4) and Juliano Coutinho (7-2) faces off with Justin Willis (3-1). WSOF 31 takes place June 17 at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn. The main card airs on NBCSN following prelims on MMAjunkie. Hood is coming off a submission loss on the regional scene, snapping a three-fight winning streak.

Shawn Jordan WSOF has bolstered its heavyweight lineup with the addition of two new hard-hitting fighters. UFC veteran Shawn Jordan (18-7) and Lorenzo Hood (9-3) have signed new deals with the company, the promotion today announced. Jordan fought 10 times for the UFC, and also went 1-1 for Strikeforce and 1-1 for Bellator.
