Senegalese powerhouse ‘Reug Reug’ brings the muscles to Brussels for ARES FC 2

Senegalese heavyweight wrecker Oumar Kane – better known by his fighting nickname, “Reug Reug” – is back, and he has his sights set on an undefeated Russian. Kane (1-0) kicked off his professional MMA career in spectacular fashion at ARES 1 as he threw his opponent Sofiane Boukichou around the cage before finishing his man via TKO early in the second round. Now “Reug Reug” is ready to return, and the 27-year-old powerhouse will take on undefeated opposition in the form of Russian heavyweight Ivan Romanov at ARES 2 at the Forest National-Vorst Nationaal arena in Brussels, Belgium on April 3. Romanov (5-0) picked up a hat-trick of victories in 2019, but his fight with Kane represents his first against an opponent with a winning record.

LONDON – It wasn’t pretty, but Britain’s Phil De Fries made good on his promise to defend his KSW heavyweight title on home soil at KSW 50, grinding out a split-decision victory after five grueling rounds at the SSE Arena, Wembley. De Fries and Brazilian challenger Luis Henrique spent the large majority of the opening three rounds seemingly locked together in an endless clinch as they battled for grappling supremacy in a largely uneventful first half of the contest. With both men clearly fatigued from three rounds of grapple-heavy action, the two heavyweights turned to their striking in the fourth, but neither man’s strikes carried the power needed to make the breakthrough. It meant the bout went to the fifth and final round as De Fries, looking marginally the fresher man, pushed the pace in the final five minutes as the contest went all the way to the final bell. And when the judges’ scores were tallied, it was De Fries who ran out the victor via split decision as the Brit secured his third successive title defense. Narkun finishes Mysiala to retain 205-pound title There were more fireworks in the night’s co-main event, as reigning KSW light heavyweight champion Tomasz Narkun took his time, waited for his moment, then landed big to drop London-based Pole Przemyslaw Mysiala before finishing him with a tight guillotine choke as he retained his title in emphatic fashion

The event features a trio of title fights, with the promotion’s heavyweight, light heavyweight and interim lightweight titles on the line. The night’s main event features a heavyweight title clash. England’s own Phil De Fries looks to make the second successful defense of the strap when he takes on Brazilian Luis Henrique . In the co-feature, Polish KSW light heavyweight champ Tomasz Narkun faces London-based Pole Przemyslaw Mysiala . The interim lightweight belt is also up for grabs, as Northern Ireland’s former UFC veteran Norman Parke battles former TUF alum Marcin Wrzocek

There’s been a change at the top of the fight card for KSW 50 in London, with the promotion’s heavyweight champion now set to face a new opponent. England’s Phil De Fries originally was due to face Damian Grabowski at the SSE Arena, Wembley on Sept. 14, but injury to the Pole left the belt-holder without a challenger for the landmark event. However, a replacement opponent has been found, with Brazilian heavyweight and six-fight UFC veteran Luis Henrique stepping in to challenge De Fries (17-6 MMA, 3-0 KSW) in London. The news was confirmed to MMA Junkie by KSW officials and subsequently announced via the promotion’s official social media channels

UFC Sao Paulo results: Ryan Spann grinds way past Luis Henrique for UFC debut victory

While Ryan Spann (14-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC) had earned his past four wins in the opening round, he had to go to the judges’ cards to pick up a UFC victory over Luis Henrique (10-5-1 MMA, 2-4 UFC). The light heavyweight clash took place on the FS2-broadcast prelims of tonight’s UFC Fight Night 137 event from Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo. The contests followed additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and aired prior to the main card on FS1.

Two fighters who recently earned UFC contracts through Dana White’s Contender Series have gotten the call up to the big show. Ryan Spann , winner at DWCS 10, will venture into hostile territory to take on Brazilian Luis Henrique in a light heavyweight bout at UFC Fight Night 137 in Sao Paulo. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Maycee Barber , who won her fight at DWCS 13, will stay in her home state of Colorado to face Maia Stevenson at UFC Fight Night 139 in Denver. Spann (14-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC) needed just 26 seconds to score a submission win via guillotine choke in his DWCS appearance
