Gallery Photos: Best of Magnus Cedenblad view 30 images Approaching two years since his most recent fight, UFC middleweight Magnus Cedenblad today announced his retirement from MMA. Cedenblad (14-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC), a 36-year-old from Sweden, announced the news on his Instagram feed in his native language. Translated, Cedenblad said in part that he “must now move on with my life and start a whole new chapter instead of sticking to a dream that fades more and more.” In the post, Cedenblad said current injuries, combined with a past history of injury issues, were the biggest factor in his decision, and that he currently “does not see any light in the tunnel” for a return. Cedenblad retires about 21 months after a second-round TKO loss to Jack Marshman at UFC Fight Night 99 in Belfast in November 2016. Prior to that setback, he was on a four-fight winning streak – though due to injuries it took nearly three years to get those four wins. After starting his pro career with two straight losses in 2007 as a light heavyweight, he moved to middleweight and went on a 10-1 run, fighting mostly in Europe

Middleweight Chris Camozzi will no longer have to play the role of bad guy at UFC Fight Night 109. UFC officials today announced that Swedish middleweight Magnus Cedenblad (14-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) has been forced to withdraw from a planned appearance in his native country against Camozzi (24-12 MMA, 9-9 UFC), and Trevor Smith (14-7 MMA, 4-4 UFC) has agreed to serve as a replacement foe. The two now meet at UFC Fight Night 109, which takes place May 28 at Ericsson Globe in Stockholm. The night’s official bout order has yet to be released, but the main card airs on FS1 following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass. Camozzi, 30, looks to snap a two-fight losing streak after suffering a decision loss to Australian judoka Daniel Kelly at this past November’s UFC Fight Night 101 event and a submission loss to Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Thales Leites at this past August’s UFC Fight Night 92

Marshman (21-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC), a former Cage Warriors champion, picked up his 19th stoppage in 21 career wins with an upset of heavy favorite Magnus Cedenblad (14-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC). The middleweight bout closed out the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 99 event at SSE Arena Belfast in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Cedenblad (14-4 MMA, 4-1 UFC), who fights Jack Marshman (20-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC) in the featured preliminary-card bout on Saturday’s UFC Fight Pass-streamed card at SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland, said he wouldn’t have been upset with a more established or ranked opponent, but he doesn’t mind welcoming the former Cage Warriors champion to the octagon either. “I commentated (on) Jack Marshman when he fought in Cage Warriors, and I think he’s a really good fighter, so I think it’s really interesting to watch,” Cedenblad today told MMAjunkie. “I was like, ‘OK, whatever.’ I think it’s a good matchup. I’m looking forward to it. Of course I want the big fights.
