With Cage Warriors set for a one-night, four-man tournament next month, an alternate tourney bout has been added to the preliminary card of Cage Warriors 59. Aaron Blackwell (11-9-1) will fight Kris Edwards (8-5), and the winner will be on hold in case one of the winners of the two bantamweight tournament bouts is injured and unable to compete in the final. Before he won the UFC flyweight title and was booked for Saturday’s UFC on FOX 8 headliner, Demetrious Johnson first needed to get by Ian McCall . Twice, in fact. In March 2012 the two fighters were part of a four-man tournament to determine the UFC’s first-ever 125-pound champion. However, a rematch of their opening-round matchup was booked after the first fight ended in a majority draw (and after a scoring error was caught too late to force the contracted sudden-victory fourth round). Check out the video above to see the rematch, which took place at UFC on FX 3 in June 2012. And catch Johnson (17-2-1 MMA, 5-1-1 UFC) in action on Saturday, when he meets John Moraga (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) in his second title defense. XFC announces four-man featherweight tourney with Bass-Sharipov, Hicks-Ribeiro

Xtreme Fighting Championships officials recently announced the promotion will conduct a four-man tournament to crown a featherweight champion, starting with Stephen Bass (10-1) vs. Farkhad Sharipov (13-5) at September’s “XFC 25: Boiling Point” event. The winner of that contest meets the winner of an Oct. 18 contest of Jason Hicks (5-1) vs. Deivison Ribeiro (23-9) for the right to wear the XFC featherweight belt.

World Series of Fighting Announces Four-Man Middleweight Tournament

World Series of Fighting’s first-ever four-man tournament kicks off Sept. 14 with a pair of middleweight match-ups, as David Branch (12-3) meets Danillo “Indio” Villefort (14-4) and Elvis “The King” Mutapcic (13-2) faces Jesse “JT Money” Taylor (26-9) at World Series of Fighting 5: Johnson vs. Kyle . Both bouts are scheduled for the NBC Sports Network-televised main card of World Series of Fighting 5, which takes place at Revel Casino Hotel’s Ovation Hall in Atlantic City. The winners will meet on a future World Series of Fighting card to claim the tournament crown and establish themselves as the company’s No. 1 contender at 185 pounds. A light heavyweight slugfest between knockout artist Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (15-4) and slugger Mike “MAK” Kyle (20-9-1) serves as the evening’s main event. UFC President Dana White says flyweights ‘absolutely’ will headline future PPVs

UFC on FOX 8 main-eventer and flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson holds the dubious honor of being the only current champ to never have headlined a pay-per-view event. But that could change soon, according to UFC President Dana White. “[Johnson] has been on a lot of big cards,” White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “He’s going to fight on FOX again, and we’re in the building phase of that division. So the answer is yes.” The 125-pound division made its debut in March 2012 with an unofficial four-man tournament to crown the UFC’s inaugural flyweight champ. Although delayed by a botched score early on in the competition, Johnson won the title this past September with a split call over Joseph Benavidez and in January defended the belt with a unanimous score over John Dodson

A pair of Bellator MMA Summer Series tournament finals will take place at this summer’s Bellator 97 event, as Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal (10-2 MMA, 2-1 BFC) meets Jacob Noe (12-2 MMA, 3-1 BFC) and Vitaly Minakov (11-0 MMA, 2-0 BFC) faces Ryan Martinez (10-2 MMA, 3-1 BFC). MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed with Bellator officials that the four Bellator 96 victors will compete at the promotion’s next event, which takes place July 31 at Santa Ana Center in Albuquerque, N.M. Lawal and Noe meet in a light heavyweight tourney final, while Minakov and Martinez square off to conclude the heavyweight tourney. There was initially some concern that Noe may have broken his hand in a Bellator 96 win over Renato “Babalu” Sobral, but he was cleared by doctors after the event and will compete at Bellator 97. Bellator 97 is headlined by a pair of championship contests as lightweight kingpin Michael Chandler faces David Rickels and welterweight title holder Ben Askren meets Andrey Koreshkov . As with all of Bellator MMA’s Summer Series events, the night’s main card airs on Spike TV, while prelims stream on Spike.com. An ailing Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (21-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) has been forced to withdraw from this month’s UFC 161 event, and UFC officials are currently seeking a replacement opponent for Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (21-7 MMA, 5-5 UFC). The scratch was first reported by GloboEsporte.com , and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has since confirmed the change with multiple sources close to the promotion. GloboEsporte.com’s report cited a herniated disc as the reason for the withdrawal. A timetable for his return was not immediately established. Rua and Nogueira had been looking to renew a rivalry that began in 2005 when the two faced off in the quarterfinal round of PRIDE’s middleweight grand prix. In a fight that many news media outlets dubbed fight of the year, Rua earned a hard-fought unanimous decision victory. Rua went on to win the star-studded and historic 16-man tournament a few months later. The two fighters have seen mixed results in recent years
