Mark Bocek believes performance-enhancing drugs are a much more prevalent issue in MMA than many believe. He’s tired of playing on an uneven field, and it’s the primary reason why he announced his retirement from the sport earlier this week. “I’m a realistic person, and I look at it like I could do all the PEDs on the planet and still be able to compete with guys, but if I don’t, it’s just not going to happen,” Bocek told MMAjunkie. “I’d rather go out like this with a good memory of the sport. I didn’t want to leave with a sour feeling on the sport, with a loss, with hating the sport

After a pro career that ran more than a decade and included more than a dozen bouts in the world’s top promotion, UFC lightweight veteran Mark Bocek has announced his retirement. Bocek announced his plans Tuesday night on Twitter : I'm retiring from pro mma.I would like to thank everyone who has helped me and supported me throughout this journey. Onto the next chapter.— Mark Bocek (@MarkBocek) August 06, 2014 In what’s been a bit of a rarity in the sport, the 32-year-old Canadian has ended his career on a high note. Bocek most recently fought in April and earned a split-decision victory over Mike De La Torre, an injury replacement for Evan Dunham. It moved him to 3-1 in his final four fights. Bocek (12-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC), who went 4-0 before signing with the UFC in 2007, is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt who posted seven submissions in 12 career wins.

With an all-Canada set of tournament finals, plus another pair of new matchups from the house, the TUF Nations Finale now is set for next week. In the welterweight final, Canadaian teammates Chad Laprise (7-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and Olivier Aubin-Mercier (4-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) meet on the main card. And in the middleweight final, Elias Theodorou (8-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) meets his Team Canada teammate Sheldon Westcott (8-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC). The tournament finals were set after Wednesday night’s final regular-season episode of “The Ultimate Fighter: Nations” on FOX Sports 1, which pitted fighters from Australia against a team from Canada. On the preliminary card, at middleweight, Australia’s Vik Grujic (6-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who lost to Westcott in the semifinals, will meet Team Canada’s Nordine Taleb (8-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC). And at welterweight, Australia’s Chris Indich (6-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) takes on teammate Richard Walsh (7-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who fell in the semis against Aubin-Mercier.

Lightweight Evan Dunham out at TUF Nations Finale, promotion seeks replacement for Mark Bocek

Veteran lightweight Evan Dunham (14-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC) has been forced to withdraw from next week’s TUF Nations Finale event, and UFC officials are now looking for a new opponent for Mark Bocek (11-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC). MMAjunkie today learned of the injury withdrawal from sources close to the event who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss such details in public. TUF Nations Finale takes place April 16 at Colisee Pepsi in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The night’s main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on UFC Fight Pass. Dunham, once of the UFC’s most promising lightweight prospects, would have found himself in a liekly must-win situation following back-to-back losses and three defeats in is past four fights. Following a split-decision win over Gleison Tibau in early 2013, the 32-year-old has since suffered defeats to Rafael dos Anjos and Donald Cerrone.
