But rather than content himself with stymying the attempt to get him to the mat, Hooker (13-6 MMA, 3-2 UFC) did one better, locking up a guillotine choke while Eddiva (6-3 MMA, 1-3 UFC) was preoccupied with the leg, and using it to force the submission at the 1:24 mark of Round 1. The featherweight bout was part of today’s UFC Fight Night 85 preliminary card at Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass. The fight itself lasted only 84 seconds, and Eddiva seemed to be in trouble for about half of it

Dan Hooker The recent shuffling of this week’s UFC Fight Night 85 card will mean some TV time for a pair of featherweights. The 145-pound bout between Mark Eddiva (6-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) and Dan Hooker (12-6 MMA, 2-2 UFC) that originally was set for the preliminary card on UFC Fight Pass now will be part of the prelims on FOX Sports 1. That leaves Fight Pass with a pair of bouts that start at 7 p.m. ET instead of the original start time of 6:30 p.m. ET

That was enough to convince two of the three judges to give Makashvili (7-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) the split decision victory (29-28, 29-29, 30-27) over a resilient Eddiva (6-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) The featherweight bout opened up the main card of today’s UFC Fight Night 66 event at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Philippines. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. Early on it became apparent that Eddiva’s big challenge would be staying upright against the takedown-minded Makashvili. After Alex White (10-2 MMA 1-2 UFC) pulled out 10 days ago with an injury, as first reported by MMAjunkie , Levan Makashvili (6-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will once again answer a UFC call on short notice. He’ll face Eddiva (6-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at featherweight next week. UFC officials announced the new pairing overnight.
