UFC Fight Night 31 Gains Two Middleweight Bouts

UFC Fight for the Troops 3 has gained two middleweight match-ups. Yoel Romero will face Ronny Markes at the Nov. 6 event in Fort Cambell, Kentucky, while Chris Camozzi takes on Lorenz Larkin.

UFC officials on Monday added two middleweight bouts to the UFC 164 fight card. Derek Brunson squares off with Yoel Romero, while Magnus Cedenblad faces Jared Hamman. UFC 164 features lightweight champion Benson Henderson putting his belt on the line against TJ Grant in the main event on pay-per-view. The event is slated for Aug. 31 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. Brunson (10-2) was rebooked for UFC 164 after his UFC on Fuel TV 10 bout with Ronny Markes was cancelled on the day of weigh-ins. Markes was pulled from the fight after being involved in a car accident. Brunson is one of the fighters that moved over to the UFC when Strikeforce closed up shop.

Exactly a year after his first UFC fight, in the same exact venue he launched his pro career in 2009, Caio Magalhaes will experience a little déjà vu at Saturday’s UFC on FUEL TV 10 event. But unlike his promotional debut, which resulted in a decision loss to Buddy Roberts , Magalhaes (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) expects few problems with fellow middleweight Karlos Vemola (9-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) in his sophomore effort. “I don’t think Karlos is a complete fighter,” Magalhaes told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “And he lacks the stamina to fight three rounds. My training partner Ronny Markes , when he debuted in the UFC, negated Karlos’ game for three rounds.” Magalhaes, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, expects to do the same when they meet in a Facebook-streamed preliminary-card bout at Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. The Nova Uniao fighter said he’s picked up enough from Markes and his other teammates that he should have little trouble with Vemola, a former heavyweight and light heavyweight who’s 1-1 since his drop to 185 pounds. “I only train with top talents, big guys like Glover Teixeira , Antonio Silva and Thales Leites ,” Magalhaes said.

A UFC on Fuel TV 10 middleweight bout between Ronny Markes and Derek Brunson has been cancelled. UFC officials on Friday confirmed the news to MMAWeekly.com , which was first reported by MMAJunkie.com . Markes was reportedly involved in a car accident on Friday morning. He was not seriously injured, but was deemed unable to compete at Saturday’s event in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. Despite the cancellation, Markes and Brunson will both be paid their guaranteed show money for the fight, according to UFC president Dana White . The bout was scheduled to be one of the feature fights on the Facebook streaming portion of UFC on Fuel TV 10. The fight card will now stand at 12 bouts instead of the initial 13. UFC on Fuel TV 10 features a heavyweight rematch between TUF Brazil 2 coaches Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum, and also serves as the reality series’ finale.

Derek Brunson vs. Ronny Markes pulled from UFC on FUEL TV 10 lineup

FORTALEZA, Brazil – A last-minute issue has forced the cancellation of a planned UFC on FUEL TV 10 matchup between Derek Brunson (10-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and Ronny Markes (14-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC). MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed with sources close to the fighter that Markes was today ruled out of the matchup. Additional sources said the the 25-year-old Brazilian was on Friday morning involved in an automobile accident. While Markes is said to not have been seriously injured, the incident will prevent the fighter from competing. According to Tatame.com’s Guilherme Cruz , Markes was a passenger in the vehicle and hurt his “neck, head and ribs” when a car driven by manager and trainer Andre Pederneiras was involved in the crash.

Ronny Markes , who quietly goes for his eighth straight win and fourth straight UFC victory this weekend at UFC on FUEL TV 10, wants to talk numbers. Specifically, he wants to talk about the amount of effort fighters give during training camp and what they have left to give on fight night. And more specifically, he wants to explain why we haven’t seen anything close to his best. “As athletes, I’m not sure if people will agree with me, but we train at 100 percent so that on fight day we can give at least 70 percent,” he told MMAjunkie.com , referencing the grueling and sometimes injury-riddled 12-week camps. “I feel I haven’t demonstrated more than 30 percent of my real abilities.
