Bellator has been waiting for almost a year to crown its first women’s featherweight champion. On Friday, the promotion finally will do it when Julia Budd and Marloes Coenen meet in Bellator 174’s main event. Budd and Coenen initially were set to fight for the title at Bellator 155 in May 2016, but an injury forced Budd from the contest. Alexis Dufresne replaced her on the card, stepping in to face Coenen in a non-title bout on less than two weeks’ notice

The last time Alexis Dufresne stepped into the Bellator cage, she scored an upset submission win over Marloes Coenen . On Friday, Coenen fights for a title, while Dufresne appears on the Bellator 174 prelims. Dufresne says she’s not bothered by the card placement. “I still get paid the same, so I’m OK,” Dufresne told MMAjunkie. Dufresne insists she hopes to win a title but isn’t all that concerned about when it happens

Marloes Coenen vs. Julia Budd title fight slated for Bellator 174

Just three weeks after the UFC crows its inaugural women’s featherweight champion, Bellator will do the same. Women’s MMA pioneer Marloes Coenen (23-7 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) and Canadian standout Julia Budd (9-2 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) will clash for the145-pound title at Bellator 174 on March 3. The event takes place at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Okla., and it airs on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie. Bellator officials today announced the matchup following an initial report from MMAFighting.com . The booking marks the second time Bellator has attempted to put the fight together. The first was targeted for Bellator 155 in May 2016, but Budd suffered an injury on short notice.

Paul Daley pulled from tonight’s Bellator 163 card

Some bad news if you were anxious to see Paul Daley back in action tonight at Bellator 163. After a difficult weight cut, hard-hitting Daley (38-14-2 MMA, 4-1 BMMA) has been pulled from his welterweight bout with Derek Anderson (14-2 MMA, 5-2 BMMA). A Bellator official today confirmed the change with MMAjunkie. MMAFighting.com first reported it. Bellator 163 takes place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

Bellator 163 weigh-in results: Headliners on weight but main-card bout scrapped

Filed under: Bellator , News , Videos The fighters have hit the scales for Bellator 163 weigh-ins, and though the headliners were on weight, one main-card bout was scrapped. Bellator 163 takes place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., with a main card on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie. Among those weighing in were light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary (11-0 MMA, 8-0 BMMA) and challenger Phil Davis (16-3 MMA, 3-0 BMMA), who headline the card. Each fighter weighed 204 pounds. A main-card bout between Talita Nogueira (6-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) and Marloes Coenen (23-7 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) was scrapped after Nogueira was unable to cut additional weight and fell short by 5.6 pounds during early weigh-ins.
