UFC exec Marshall Zelaznik revealed at Saturday night’s post-UFC 163 press conference in Rio de Janeiro that UFC President Dana White and matchmaker Joe Silva told him an impressive win by Teixeira in his upcoming bout with Ryan Bader (15-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) could earn him a crack at the belt. “Dana and Joe have confirmed with a strong victory by Glover that he probably gets the winner of the Jon Jones fight,” Zelaznik said. The UFC cannot yet confirm a rumored return to Brazil in October, but that probably doesn’t mean the promotion isn’t trying to lock something up. USA TODAY: UFC targets Mexico expansion in 2014

(This story appeared in today’s edition of USA TODAY .) Canada, Brazil, Britain and Australia have all been recent targets of the UFC’s ambitious expansion plans. However, after years of the world’s most prominent MMA promotion teasing the possibility, Mexico could finally be next. To date the UFC has never ventured south of the border despite Mexico’s quickly growing circuit of regional fight promotions. But the pieces are falling into place, including a new TV deal and a planned Spanish-language version of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series. UFC executive Marshall Zelaznik, who serves as a managing director of international development, had hoped an event could take place in Mexico this year, but said that’s probably a bit too ambitious. “I think it’ll probably slide to next year, in Mexico City,” he told USA TODAY Sports and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “If we can get ‘The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America’ and get the live event in Mexico City, that will really token charge our business there.” In addition to 17 American seasons of its competition/reality series, the UFC has hosted three international installments of “TUF.” The second wrapped Saturday in Brazil, and an Australia vs.

The UFC has been targeting a return date to Brazil on Sept. 4 as part of its early efforts on the new U.S. national sports network, Fox Sports 1 . Their initial plans for UFC on FS1 3 to land in Porto Alegre, however, are facing an uphill battle. The event may instead see the promotion circle back to Belo Horizonte instead. It’s unclear what the issue is with Porto Alegre, but UFC executive Marshall Zelaznik, following Saturday night’s UFC on Fuel TV 10 in Fortaleza, confirmed that there is an issue and that the promotion has begun formulating a back-up plan.

Bobby Lashley earns second-round win at Titan FC 25

In his first fight in more than a year, former Strikeforce heavyweight Bobby Lashley picked up a second-round submission victory in the headliner of Friday’s Titan FC 25 event. With the fight on the mat, Lashley (8-2) tapped out veteran Kevin Asplund (15-5) with a keylock, who’s now dropped four straight since an eight-year, 15-fight win streak. The bout aired on AXS TV from Marshall Army Airfield in Fort Riley, Kan.
