Brazilian light heavyweight Glover Teixeira has been a professional mixed martial artist since debuting almost 11 years ago, in June 2002. Amassing a 21-2 record over that time period, Teixeira only recently made his UFC debut in 2012 at UFC 146, submitting Kyle Kingsbury, but he already has a title shot within his sights. Over that 10-year period, Teixeira became an enigma of sorts. Fighting sporadically over the early years of his career, the Brazilian brawler earned a devilish reputation for his work inside the cage. Trained out of the legendary Pit Fight Team in Arroyo Grande, Calif., under famed trainer John Hackleman, Teixera has long been a fighter to watch for many of the diehard MMA fans all across the globe. Currently riding a four-fight winning streak in the Octagon, with one win being an impressive dismantling of former division champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson , Teixeira is set to square off with Ultimate Fighter winner Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night 28 on Sept.

After 16 years as a professional mixed martial artist, Aaron Riley (30-14-1 MMA, 3-6 UFC) has decided to call it a career. The 32-year-old announced his intentions via Twitter following a UFC on FOX 8 loss to Justin Salas . “Fight my last MMA fight tonight,” Riley wrote. “It’s been fun, but after 16 years I’m calling it good. Thanks to everyone who ever supported my career.” And Indiana native, Riley turned pro at the ripe old age of 16 and lost just once in his first 13 professional bouts. He made his UFC debut in 2002 against Robbie Lawler at UFC 37, and it was “Ruthless” who took home a decision win

UFC welterweight Rory MacDonald knew he wanted to be a mixed martial artist the first time he saw footage of an early UFC event. He quickly began training at the age of 14 and a decade later is on the cusp of a UFC title shot. “I just fell in love. I started training. It was amazing,” MacDonald told UFC.com . “I was addicted. I was completely consumed in it. It was all I did like 24 hours a day was watch videos, train and try to learn as much as I could. “I pretty much knew instantly that this was going to be what I did with my life,” he added.

Bec Hyatt Believes She Did Enough to Win at Invicta FC 6 Despite What the Scorecards Read

Bec Hyatt has become a fan favorite in Invicta FC. Whenever the Australian mixed martial artist competes in the American-based all-female fight promotion, the crowd regularly chants, “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie…” In her fight with 18-year-old Japanese rising star Mizuki Inoue on July 13, it was no different. The crowd was on her side, but the scorecards were not. Hyatt (5-3) lost by unanimous decision, but believes she should have had her hand raised at the end of the three-round bout. “I guess I learned my lesson; don’t leave it in the hands of the judges,” said Hyatt during the Invicta FC 6 post-fight press conference. Hyatt feels that she won the opening and closing rounds of the fight. “I feel like my dominant position at the end of round one won me that round, and in round three I got in my groove,” she said. “I feel like I won rounds one and three, but the judges saw it different.” Despite her disagreement with the judges over who won the fight, Hyatt had nothing but positive comments to say about her opponent.

Floyd Mayweather Tops Jon Jones and Anderson Silva for ESPY; Would He Get Killed by a Wrestler?

Jon Jones and Anderson Silva were nominated for ESPN’s Best Fighter ESPY, but once again, they were beaten out by boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr . The ESPYs are voted on by fans and were awarded Wednesday night in Los Angeles. Jones and Silva have each been nominated for the award three times since its inception in 2007, but no mixed martial artist has ever won it. Mayweather has won the award five times, while Manny Pacquiao has won it on two occasions. ESPY voting takes place online and is open until the time the award is handed out, so much of the voting came after Silva got knocked out by Chris Weidman at UFC 162 on July 6. While fans may have voted Mayweather the top fighter, UFC broadcaster Joe Rogan, in the August issue of Inked magazine, pointed out that boxing is too limited when comparing fighters from that sport to mixed martial arts. “MMA for sure is more of a realistic contest, more of a realistic test as far as using the body in martial arts competition,” said Rogan. “Although not considered a martial art, boxing is really a martial art
