UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has skyrocketed to the fringes of superstardom, breaking down barriers that separated men from women in combat sports. She’s ushered in a new era of awareness about female mixed martial artists. Tate captured the Strikeforce women’s 135-pound title by submitting Marloes Coenen in July 2011. Biogenesis Drug Scandal Could Include MMA; UFC President Dana White Weighs In (Video)

There has been a major scandal brewing in the world of sports, once again centering on illegal performance enhancing drugs and treatments. There are claims that Biogenesis and its founder, Tony Bosch, have been providing PEDs to numerous athletes in the professional sports world. Thus far, the spotlight and accusations have focused primarily on Major League Baseball stars like Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun. The man who blew the whistle on Biogenesis, Porter Fischer, recently indicated that there are athletes from numerous other sports involved as well, specifically mentioning the NBA and mixed martial arts. There was no indication who the mixed martial artists involved were, but as with anything MMA, UFC president Dana White , at his UFC on Fox 8 post-fight scrum with reporters, was grilled about the Biogenesis scandal and the questions about what if a UFC fighter was involved. UFC Brings The Ultimate Fighter to China in November as well as Live Events Starting in 2014

function not found The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced on Thursday a new, multi-year partnership which will bring regular live UFC events to Asia, as well as a Chinese version of the UFC’s hit reality series The Ultimate Fighter . Beginning in 2014, the UFC will stage a series of live events at both The Venetian Macao and Marina Bay Sands. TUF China will be a 12-part series where the best Chinese mixed martial artists will live, train and compete with each other to win a six-figure contract with the UFC. The Chinese edition of The Ultimate Fighter will be co-produced by UFC and Liaoning Radio Television and is scheduled to premiere this November on Liaoning Satellite TV, reaching more than 830 million viewers across China. The live finale event to determine the inaugural champion of The Ultimate Fighter China will be held at The Venetian Macao’s CotaiArena in March 2014. Mark Fischer, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of UFC Asia, said: “We are very excited to announce these new partnerships with Sands China and Liaoning Radio Television. With Sands China’s support we will be bringing regular events to the region, as well as the Chinese edition of The Ultimate Fighter. This is an unprecedented initiative for any global sports league in China.

UFC champs Jon Jones, Anderson Silva nominated for 2013 ESPY Awards

Once again, a pair of UFC champions are nominated for an ESPY award, an honor that has thus far remained out of reach for any top-level mixed-martial-artists. Light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and middleweight champ Anderson Silva are among the nominees for “Best Fighter” at the 2013 ESPN Espy Awards. Also nominated in the category are boxers Canelo Alvarez, Danny Garcia and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Fans can vote on the “Best Fighter” of the year and 34 other categories at the 2013 ESPY Awards’ official website . It’s the third straight year Jones has been nominated in the “Best Fighter” category. It’s also the third nomination for Silva, who was put up for the award in 2009 and 2012. Created in 2007 to replace the “Best Boxer” category that had been in place since 1993, the “Best Fighter” award has been claimed four times by Mayweather Jr. and twice by fellow boxer Manny Pacquaio

Robert Drysdale to Make Octagon Debut at UFC 163

Decorated grappler Robert Drysdale is finally making his way to the Octagon. Drysdale is expected to make his promotional debut against Ednaldo Oliveira at UFC 163 on Aug. 3 in Rio de Janeiro. UFC officials confirmed the signing and Drysdale’s Octagon debut that was first reported on Tuesday by the Las Vegas Review-Journal . Drysdale is a world champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and won the 2007 Abu Dhabi open weight division. He is a grappler that numerous mixed martial artists have worked with to dial in their submission games
