At 1-3 in the UFC heading into Saturday night, Steven Peterson knew he needed to make a big impression. Martin Bravo must have been looking to make a big impression, too, fighting in his homeland of Mexico. And that’s probably why they both threw near-simultaneous spinning backfists in the second round of their featherweight fight at UFC on ESPN+ 17. Unfortunately for Bravo (11-3 MMA, 1-3 UFC), his attempt was just off, while Peterson’s landed square on the button, knocking Bravo out cold and ending their fight at the 1:31 mark of the second round. After Bravo hit the mat, Peterson (18-9 MMA, 2-3 UFC) landed one more shot, which wasn’t necessary but well within the rules, before referee Herb Dean broke things up. A featherweight bout between Martin Bravo and Steven Peterson is the latest addition to September’s UFC on ESPN+ 17 lineup. MMA Junkie verified the matchup between Bravo (11-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) and Peterson (17-9 MMA, 1-3 UFC) with two people close to the situation following an initial report from Milenio.com . The people requested anonymity because UFC has yet to make an official announcement. UFC on ESPN+ 17 takes place on Sept. 21 at Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City. The entire card is expected to stream on ESPN+

Adesanya and Pena earned “Performance of the Night” awards, and Caceres and Bravo took home “Fight of the Night” honors. UFC officials announced the winners after the card, which MMAjunkie attended. Adesanya (13-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) was systematic in his dominance of Brad Tavares (17-5 MMA, 12-5 UFC) in the middleweight main event. Adesanya took a pair of 50-45 scores and a 49-46 from a judge who gave Tavares the first round

For three rounds, Alex Caceres and Martin Bravo tried just about everything they could think of to hurt one another. Both succeeded to one degree or another, but in the end the judges sided with Caceres (14-11 MMA, 9-9 UFC) by the slimmest of margins after his battle with Bravo (11-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) veered into total slobberknocker territory by the final round. The featherweight bout was part of the main card of today’s TUF 27 Finale event at Pearl Theatre at The Palms in Las Vegas. It aired on FS1 following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass. A month after his fight was ripped from UFC 223 with little warning, Alex Caceres is set to return this summer. Caceres (13-11 MMA, 8-9 UFC), according to a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal , will meet Martin Bravo (11-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in a featherweight fight at the TUF 27 Finale in Las Vegas during the UFC’s “International Fight Week.” UFC officials have not yet made a formal announcement of the matchup. The Ultimate Fighter 27 Finale takes place July 6 at Pearl Theater in Las Vegas
