To the surprise of many, five-time UFC veteran John Maguire was upset by healthy underdog Saul Rogers after three rounds of closely contested action in the Cage Warriors 65 headliner. Saturday’s event, which streamed on MMAjunkie from The Helix in Dublin, saw the significantly younger and less experienced Rogers (8-1) hold his own and more against Maguire (19-7) to take a unanimous decision victory, and the most notable win of his young career. Maguire expected his winning streak and subsequent climb back to the UFC’s octagon to take another positive step forward against Rogers, but that obviously didn’t go as planned. The 24-year-old Rogers stayed away from the dangerous submissions of “The One” when he needed to and patiently waited for his moments to attack. With the loss, Maguire drops to a dismal 1-4 in his past five fights, while Rogers recorded his second consecutive victory under the Cage Warriors banner. Alloway edges Mason in Cage Warriors debut After seeing his UFC career fizzle due to consecutive losses, Ben Alloway (13-5) got back on track in his Cage Warriors debut with a decision victory over a game Jack Mason (26-13) in the co-main event.

Cage Warriors adds six fighters to roster ahead of 2014 debut

Following its busy 2013, Cage Warriors Fighting Championship has added six more fighters to its roster. Promotion officials recently announced five-fight exclusive contracts for Paul Marin , Toni Tauru , Martin Svensson , Martin Sheridan , Aaron Blackwell and Ronan McKay that will keep them working for the company for the next 18 months. After putting on 14 events this past year, its busiest stretch on the calendar yet, the promotion will return on Feb. 15 for Cage Warriors 64 at The Forum in London.

James Brum vs. Marat Pekov among changes to three Cage Warriors cards in December

A busy month for Cage Warriors Fighting Championship has seen a few changes to close out the promotion’s busiest year ever. Cage Warriors will put on three shows this month: Cage Warriors 62 takes place Saturday in Newcastle, England. On Dec. 13, the promotion travels to Amman, Jordan, for Cage Warriors 61 (that card kept its original numbering after a cancellation earlier this fall).
