Martin Stapleton is a veteran of the U.K. MMA circuit and a former BAMMA lightweight champion. But before he pulled on a set of four-ounce gloves, “.50 Cal” was a veteran of a very different kind. Stapleton spent 12 years as a Royal Marine commando and toured Afghanistan and Iraq during his time in active duty. But while he was away on tour he discovered MMA and, upon his return to the U.K., he jumped on Google to find his nearest MMA gym so he could sample the sport for himself

Martin Stapleton meets Soren Bak at Cage Warriors 88 in London

About a week after he was announced for the card, lightweight contender Martin Stapleton has an opponent for his Cage Warriors 88 bout. Stapleton (19-5) will take on Soren Bak (8-1) on the card, which takes place Oct. 28 at Echo Arena in Liverpool, England, with a live stream on UFC Fight Pass. Promotion officials announced the booking today. Officials today announced Fishgold (16-1-1) will meet challenger Alexander Jacobsen (8-1) in the championship main event. Cage Warriors 88 takes place Oct. 28 at Echo Arena in Liverpool, England, and it streams on UFC Fight Pass.

Jason Radcliffe-Victor Cheng vacant middleweight title fight headlines Cage Warriors 85

The reinvented Cage Warriors organization will continue to hand out championship belts going forward, and at Cage Warriors 85, a new middleweight titleholder will be crowned. Victor Cheng (11-2) and Jason Radcliffe (11-2) will collide for the currently vacant 185-pound championship in the Cage Warriors 85 headliner on June 24 at O2 Academy in Bournemouth, England. The event streams on UFC Fight Pass. Cage Warriors President Graham Boylan today announced the matchup. Although Cheng has just one appearance under the Cage Warriors banner, his unanimous decision win over Leeroy Barnes at Cage Warriors 78 in September was apparently enough to punch his ticket to a title fight. The Swedish fighter is on a four-fight winning streak and has earned eight of his 11 career wins by stoppage

The lineup for next week’s Cage Warriors 82 event took another hit today. Just a few days after lightweight champion Chris Fishgold was pulled from his co-main event title fight vs. Jani Salmi with an injury, another lightweight is off the card. Three-fight Bellator veteran and BAMMA champion Martin Stapleton (18-5) has been forced out of his fight against Aleksi Mantykivi (10-4) with an injury. Promotion officials announced the news today, but didn’t say whether Mantykivi will remain on the card against a new opponent.

In the bout, which aired on Spike TV from Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif., Manhoef (29-11-1 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) made a successful promotional debut (and earned himself a title shot ) with a violent first-round knockout of Marshall (18-8 MMA, 4-2 BMMA).
