Rizin FF announces 16-man bantamweight grand prix, opening round matchups

Sixteen fighters are set for action in the Rizin FF bantamweight grand prix, but only one will pocket the grand prize. On Monday the promotion announced details of the 135-pound tournament, which includes a host of Rizin’s top names, including former champion Kai Asakura , leg lock legend Masakazu Imanari and former finalist of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Hiromasa Ogikubo . The first round will take place across two Rizin FF events in May, with subsequent rounds through the year culminating in the tournament finale, with the winner set to pocket 10,000,000 JPY (approximately $91,000). The runner-up will earn 5,000,0000 JPY (approximately $45,000)

If you’re fighting Masakazu Imanari , you have one mission: Do not let him touch your legs. Won Il Kwon (6-1) did a decent job of heeding that advice for all of about 40 seconds. After that, Imanari (38-18-2) utilized his patented Tony Ferguson roll (kidding!!!) to snatch hold of his opponent’s right leg. While he was initially too far down the limb, Imanari inched his way back up the leg, gaining control of the knee and torquing the joint, forcing a tap at just 53 seconds of the ONE Championship 90 contest at Singapore Indoor Stadium. Check out video of the finish: The 43-year-old Imanari currently boasts a three-fighting winning streak. All three wins have come by way of submission, the longest of which took just 83 seconds

Grappling legend Masakazu Imanari is a late addition to Friday’s ONE Championship 82. Promotion officials today announced that Imanari (36-18-2) will face Singapore’s Radeem Rahman (3-1) at the event, which takes place at Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar. The night’s main card stream via the ONE Championship app following prelims on Facebook and Twitter. Japan’s Imanari, 42, boasts 25 submission victories among his 36 career wins.

ONE Championship 67 highlights: Xiong Jing Nan claims title to close KO-filled card

ONE Championship 67 saw the crowning on a new champion. In Saturday’s “One Championship 67: Kings of Courage” headliner, which streamed as an online pay-per-view from Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia, Xiong Jing Nan (11-1) claimed the inaugural women’s strawweight championship with a solid performance over Tiffany Teo (7-1). The 30-year-old Chinese fighter picked up her third straight knockout win after battering and ultimately dropping Teo in the fourth round. Check out the highlights above. In the co-headliner, Stefer Rahardian (7-0) remained undefeated with a decision victory over fellow flyweight Muhammad Imran (5-2).

The Asia-based ONE Championship promotion has struck a streaming deal with Twitter. Officials today announced the collaboration, which kicks off with Saturday’s “ONE Championship 67: Kings of Courage” event. ONE Championship 67 takes place at Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia, and most of the main card streams as an online pay-per-view in North America.
