Mateus Mendonca was determined to finish Nate Maness with a leg submission at UFC Fight Night 229 , and it resulted in him getting knocked out. Maness (15-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) showed off the power behind his ground-and-pound when he countered the repeated grappling attacks of Mendonca (10-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) with vicious punches to the face until the referee stepped in at the 4:40 mark of Round 1.

Week 10 of Dana White’s Contender Series (2022) took place Tuesday in Las Vegas, and we’re grading the winners from the five-fight card, which streamed on ESPN+ from the UFC Apex. With a simple but digestible format that has had the MMA fanbase responding, this series has shown to have legs in multiple ways while serving as a crockpot for contenders whom the UFC matchmakers can use for future events. So, with that trend in mind, I will once again be taking a look at the winning fighters regardless of whether or not they won a UFC contract and grading their performances in regards to their probability of returning to a UFC stage.

Charles Oliveira protege Mateus Mendonca nails scary, 48-second knockout of Ashiek Ajim on DWCS

Mateus Mendonca has hands and he showed them off Tuesday at Dana White’s Contender Series. A training partner of UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira , the undefeated featherweight Mendonca (10-0) iced CES MMA champion Ashiek Ajim (6-2) in 48 seconds at the UFC Apex. An overhand right started off the sequence when Mendonca dropped Ajim to the canvas. As Ajim tried to regain himself, a left punch and right hammerfist snatched his remaining consciousness. Due to the violent series of blows, Ajim was down on the canvas for over two minutes before UFC and commission staff assisted him to his stool. WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!
