2025 is off to an incredible start for former UFC fighter Matt Hamill . Deaf since birth, Hamill recently was able to hear for the first time thanks to powerful hearing aides newly acquired, he revealed in an Instagram post Wednesday. “I just got the most powerful digital hearing aids ever made,” Hamill wrote. “For the first time in 41 years, I can finally hear my kids’ voices, the sounds of people walking and laughing. I finally heard my mom’s voice and she cried. I’m looking forward to hearing my brother Pat’s voice too.

I see how you want to profit from that! Is also why you bail him out of all the other things…” Hamill posted on Instagram . “How about a rematch?! I’ll be happy to fight him for a heavyweight title

UFC president Dana White dropped a debatable item into the MMA conversation last week when he said he was going to ask the Nevada Athletic Commission to overturn Jon Jones ’ controversial 2009 loss to Matt Hamill . Jones was dominating the bout against Hamill until, during what certainly appeared to be a fight-ending sequence of ground strikes, the future light heavyweight champion was disqualified for using illegal 12-6 elbows. A decade later, it stands as the only blemish of Jones’ career.

UFC and “Ultimate Fighter” veteran and fan favorite Matt Hamill will be back in action this spring. Hamill (13-8) will fight for the first time in more than a year, and it will be for a title. The 41-year-old Ohioan is set to take on Teddy Ash (10-3) in the main event at Unified 33, the promotion recently announced. Hamill and Ash will fight for the light heavyweight title. Unified 33 will take place May 11 at River Cree Resort & Casino in Enoch, Alberta, Canada

Today in MMA History: When Jon Jones lost after getting too creative with elbows

It was early December 2009, and the MMA world was feeling pretty excited about this new kid from upstate New York. Young guy, but tall and lanky with moves unlike any we’d ever seen. Crazy spinning stuff. Elbows from strange angles. What’s more, he’d only been fighting for a little over a year, and with minimal instruction beyond his background as a high school and community college wrestler. Asked about his unorthodox, but clearly very effective striking game, he claimed he learned it from watching YouTube videos.

Hamill (12-8), a 15-fight UFC veteran and cast member on Season 3 of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series, snapped an ugly four-fight losing skid with a 38-second knockout win over Luiz Cane (17-7) on Friday at “Fight 2 Night 2” in Foz do Iguacu, Parana, Brazil. It was a left hand that did the trick for Hamill early in the light heavyweight bout with Cane.
