With scrapped fight, Brandao-Kikuno moves to Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 75 main card

Diego Brandao With a pair of injuries, Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 75 lineup has a new main-card bout. UFC officials recently announced the cancellation of a bantamweight fight between Matt Hobar (9-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) and Norifumi Yamamoto (18-6 MMA, 0-3 UFC) after both competitors suffered undisclosed injuries. As a result, a featherweight title between Diego Brandao (19-10 MMA, 5-3 UFC) and Katsunori Kikuno (23-7-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has been elevated to the main card.

Kyoji Horiguchi UFC Fight Night 76 is starting to take shape with the UFC’s announcement of four bouts for the event. UFC Fight Night 76 takes place Sept. 27 at Saitama Super Arena in Japan, just north of Tokyo. Due to the time difference, the event will air on Sept. 26 in North America. Broadcast plans have not yet been announced

He ended the year on a loss, which brought his record to 1-2 in the octagon. Not a great place to be as an up-and-coming fighter. Combatants like Hobar (9-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) come and go all the time in the UFC, running up a great record on the regional circuit only to flame out against tougher competition.

For the first time, Sergio Pettis will get a chance to fight on the same card as his lightweight champion big brother in December. Pettis (11-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) is set to meet Matt Hobar (9-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in a bantamweight bout at UFC 181. UFC officials announced the new bout following an initial report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal . Featuring a welterweight title fight rematch between champ Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler, as well as a lightweight title fight between champ Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez, UFC 181 takes place at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center.

TULSA – Matt Hobar (9-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) left little to chance after losing his octagon debut and ran roughshod over fellow second-timer Aaron Phillips (5-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC). Striker Phillips spent most of the fight on his back, taking punishment as Hobar took the fight to the mat and stayed active in top position for a unanimous-decision win.
