LFA 44 highlights: Matthew Frincu beats Christian Aguilera in battle of strikers

LFA 44 took place Friday night at Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, and the main card aired on AXS TV. In the welterweight main event, Matthew Frincu and Christian Aguilera put on a striking clinic, as expected, with Frincu (13-3) coming away with a unanimous-decision win by three scores of 29-28. The result pushes Frincu’s winning streak to three; Aguilera (11-5), meanwhile, has his winning streak snapped at three. In the bantamweight co-headliner, Casey Kenney (9-1-1), a two-time Dana White’s Contender Series competitor, outlasted former UFC fighter Roman Salazar (12-7) for a unanimous decision by scores of 29-28 twice and 30-27. LFA 24 took place Friday from Comerica Theatre in Phoenix and aired live on AXS TV. In the main event, four-time Bellator veteran Millender (13-3) helped his cause to return to the big stage with a highlight-reel head-kick knockout of Matthew Frincu (11-3) in just 38 seconds of their welterweight contest. The two explosive fighters came out looking to bang, but it was Millender who patiently absorbed blows before countering with a right high kick that landed flush on the chin and sent Frincu crashing to the canvas. In a featured women’s flyweight fight, jiu-jitsu world champion Mackenzie Dern (4-0) earned another submission win by locking in a rear-naked choke to make Mandy Polk (3-4) tap out at the 2:55 mark of the first round. What stood out, though, was the fact that Dern’s striking – not her grappling – set up the finisher. Watch the full highlights above.
