A popular light heavyweight slugger will test his mettle at 265 pounds next time he steps foot in the octagon. Long Island’s Gian Villante will take on up-and-comer Maurice Green on the upcoming UFC June 27 card. MMA Junkie confirmed an initial report by MMA Fighting . Villante (17-11 MMA, 7-8 UFC) has a habit of finding himself in exciting fights, win or lose, as attested by his three “Fight of the Night” bonuses in the UFC. He’s dropped two of his past three bouts, and will compete at heavyweight for the first time since an alternates fight in the legendary Strikeforce grand prix in 2011. Greene (8-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC) meanwhile, entered the UFC via “The Ultimate Fighter 28.” The fighter nicknamed “The Crochet Boss” won his first three official UFC fights, but is now trying to snap a two-fight losing streak

The UFC has confirmed number of fights to its return to Singapore in October in addition to confirming the welterweight headliner between Ben Askren and Demian Maia. Among the most notable is a bout between Michael Johnson (19-14 MMA, 11-10 UFC), who is set to return to the lightweight division after a four fight stint at featherweight, against Stevie Ray (22-9 MMA, 6-4 UFC). UFC on ESPN+ 20 takes place Oct. 26 at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore

‘The Ultimate Fighter 28: Heavy Hitters’ Episode 10 recap

Episode 10 of “The Ultimate Fighter 28: Heavy Hitters” opens with controversial Team Gastelum team member Maurice Green starting his day with a few cigarettes to help himself relax. He knows the negative impacts smoking has on fighting career but said he’s been doing it for a long time. Team Gastelum’s Justin Frazier talks to Greene about his struggles in the competition that have included multiple drunken confrontations with his fellow cast members. Greene breaks down and becomes emotional over his behavior throughout the competition and said it’s been a much more difficult process than anticipated. Greene visits The Ultimate Fighter Gym, where he meets with head coach Kelvin Gastelum and some of the assistant coaching staff. Coach Gastelum believes Greene has no shortage of potential and could make the heavyweight tournament final, but says he’s not pleased with how the fighter has conducted himself and urges him to get back on track.
