INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Chris Gonzalez turned the tables on Max Rohskopf with one punch Saturday night. After first round in which Rohskopf looked like the better fighter, Gonzalez came back in Round 2 and landed the punch he needed, hitting Rohskopf with a straight right hand to the forehead that wobbled his legs and sent him backwards on the canvas. From there, Gonzalez only needed some follow-up punches on the defenseless Rohskopf to earn the second-round TKO at the 1:22 mark inside Kia Forum

Max Rohskopf was in disbelief. Prior to his scheduled promotional debut last October 1 at Bellator 286 in Long Beach, Rohskopf did what was required of him by the California State Athletic Commission. He submitted a new brain MRI because his old one was outdated; he even got another MRI two weeks before the event when the commission asked; and then the day before the bout, he made weight. After putting in a full training camp, he was raring to go. But something happened. “Immediately after weigh-ins, like an hour after I already weighed in, the commission told me I had to go get another MRI, and I had to pay out of pocket for it,” Rohskopf recently told MMA Junkie Radio

Max Rohskopf will get another shot in a big promotion. Rohskopf (7-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), who had one fight in the UFC, has signed a multifight deal with Bellator, promotion officials confirmed Wednesday to MMA Junkie after an Instagram post from his manager, Brian Butler, of SuckerPunch Entertainment. Neither a debut date nor opponent has been announced. One of the most highly touted prospects in MMA entering 2020, Rohskopf was signed to the UFC and lost after he retired on the stool. The decision to not go out for a third round was heavily criticized by some viewers, including UFC president Dana White. Shortly after the fight, Rohskopf was released

Dewey Cooper, who serves as one of the main coaches at Zenith MMA Team in Las Vegas alongside Drysdale, was there, too. He said he supports every action that was made and views the backlash to the corner interaction between Drysdale and Rohskopf as “over exaggerated” and “crazy.” “I was in the corner, and I was the one warming him up as Max is our guy,” Cooper told MMA Junkie. “I didn’t think anything was wrong with what transpired in the corner. I didn’t think anything was wrong with what transpired in the fight. We took the fight on five days’ notice, and it just didn’t go our way.

Luis Pena didn’t find MMA’s most recent controversy all that controversial. Pena (8-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC), a UFC lightweight, supports Robert Drysdale ’s cornering of Max Rohskopf at this past Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 11 in Las Vegas. Drysdale was criticized by some in the MMA bubble for pushing his fighter in between rounds to continue fighting. Rohskopf (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) had repeatedly told Drysdale he no longer wanted to continue fighting.
