On Aug. 20, it was revealed that UFC heavyweight Stefane Struve is suffering from a heart condition that may prevent him from ever competing inside the cage again. Struve (25-6) was diagnosed with a leaking aortic valve and an enlarged heart. He was placed on medication and may require a future surgery. The seven-foot tall Struve has fought thirteen times in the UFC , amassing a 9-4 record. UFC president Dana White believes that’s where Struve’s fighting career will stand.

UFC heavyweight Stefan Struve has been diagnosed with a leaking aortic valve, as well as an enlarged heart, leaving his fighting career in jeopardy, according to a report from UFC Tonight on Tuesday. The Nevada State Athletic Commission issued no new therapeutic-use exemptions for testosterone replacement therapy at UFC 162 but did give UFC middleweight Chris Leben permission to use the prescription opioid medication Suboxone. Leben (22-10 MMA, 12-9 UFC), who lost a split decision to Andrew Craig (9-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) at this past Saturday’s event, is the first fighter to receive an exemption for the drug, which typically is used as a replacement therapy for people with narcotic dependency. NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer confirmed the news today with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). Leben was unreachable for comment. The veteran fighter’s exemption offers proof of his efforts to get clean following a well-documented struggle with drugs. In November 2011, he tested positive for oxycodone and oxymorphone following a loss to Mark Munoz at UFC 138 and was suspended by the UFC for one year.

To him, there’s no mistaking what happened after his eighth fight in the octagon, which resulted in a submission loss to Bobby Green at UFC 156. “I got fired,” he told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). Volkmann (15-4), who fights Lyle Beerbohm (21-2) on Friday at World Series of Fighting 3 in Las Vegas, said he was sick the week of the Green fight and had to take medication to make it into the octagon. He did, but his typically steady endurance failed him in the later rounds of the fight
