MFC President Mark Pavelich is determined to continuously improve his product for consumers – and they’ll get a look at it tonight at MFC 40. From its first event back in March 2001, Pavelich has done his best to ensure the MFC is one of the top organizations not just in Canada, but also across the entire globe. Like any MMA promotion, MFC has had its peaks and valleys since its inception, and whether or not you’re a fan of the product, there’s no denying the longevity of the family-run organization has surpassed countless rivals. That alone is something Pavelich is proud of. And even with other organizations blowing up and signing broadcast or partnership agreements with major companies, he vows to build on the same product MFC fans have come to know and love. “We’re the only store that’s still left that’s mom and pop,” Pavelich today told MMAjunkie Radio.

Sam Alvey defends middleweight belt vs. Wes Swofford at MFC 40

Sam Alvey finally has his opponent for his first Maximum Fighting Championship title defense. Alvey (21-5), the promotion’s middleweight champion, will put his belt on the line this spring against Wes Swofford (9-4) at “MFC 40: Crowned Kings.” Promotion officials recently announced the title fight. MFC 40 takes place May 9 at the promotion’s regular home at Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The main card will air live on AXS TV. The card also features a bantamweight title fight between champ Anthony Birchak (11-1) and Kevin Croom (13-4) and a rematch between Tom Gallicchio (18-8) and Kurt Southern (13-5) for the vacant lightweight belt. The bout order will again be determined by a fan vote.

Anthony Birchak was awaiting his opponent the first defense of his Maximum Fighting Championship bantamweight title. Now he has one. Birchak (11-1) will meet Kevin Croom (13-4) at “MFC 40: Crowned Kings” in two months. MFC officials recently announced Birchak’s challenger for the event. MFC 40 takes place May 9 at the promotion’s regular home at Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The main card airs live on AXS TV and features two other title fights as middleweight champ Sam Alvey defends his title against an opponent still to be announced, and Tom Gallicchio rematches Kurt Southern for the vacant lightweight belt.

Maximum Fighting Championship will return in May with a card featuring three title fights. “MFC 40: Crowned Kings” will take place May 9 at the promotion’s regular home at Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The main card will air live on AXS TV. Two of the title fights are yet to be set with opponents for bantamweight champion Anthony Birchak (11-1) and middleweight champ Sam Alvey (21-5), and the third is a rematch between Tom Gallicchio (18-8) and Kurt Southern (13-5) for the vacant lightweight belt. The bout order will again be determined by a fan vote. Fans can vote for their top matchup for the main event with the #PunchTheVote hashtag on social media
