On an historic card for ONE Championship, Jing Nan Xiong kept her belt and staved off Michelle Nicolini ’s hope to become the promotion’s next superstar. Xiong (16-2) outworked Nicolini (6-3) on the feet and mostly stayed away from Nicolini’s submission attempts and hopes for the fight to play out on the canvas. In doing so, Xiong retained the women’s strawweight title in the ONE Championship: Empower main event Friday at Singapore Indoor Stadium

Featherweight champion Marat Gafurov (14-0) will take on former champ Narantungalag Jadambaa (12-4) in a co-main event rematch, promotion officials today announced. Legacy FC promoter Mick Maynard, whose organization has produced a number of UFC additions, told MMAjunkie that he recently signed Nicolini (2-0) to a multi-fight deal with a planned promotional debut later this year. Maynard raved about the Robert Drysdale black belt’s grappling skills, which have resulted in multiple world jiu-jitsu titles.
