After fending off a seemingly endless stream of submission attempts, Dakota Cochrane turned the tables on Maki Pitolo and finished the Victory FC 58 main event with a submission of his own. Early on in the welterweight bout, which headlined the UFC Fight Pass-streamed card at Baxter Arena in Omaha, Neb., it appeared it would not be Cochrane’s (29-12) night. Pitolo (8-4) put him in numerous compromising positions, including taking his back and working for a rear-naked choke or neck crank. He got the upper hand on Pitolo in the midst of a second-round scramble, grabbing ahold of the neck with a guillotine choke.

Kassius Holdorf (9-3) was out for revenge against Maki Pitolo (8-3) at Victory FC 54’s headlining affair. And, after a thunderous knockout in the early seconds of the second round, he managed to not only avenge a loss but also take the promotion’s 170-pound belt in the process.

Tonight’s Victory FC 53 lineup got a major change to the main card, but will plow forward with six fights. Middleweight champion Mike Rhodes (10-4) was set to defend his title for the first time against UFC veteran Ron Stallings (14-8) in the main event. But Rhodes had to withdraw from the fight due to illness, the promotion announced, making the new headliner a bantamweight bout between Jeff Curran (36-17-1), a veteran of the UFC, Bellator, Strikeforce, WEC and PRIDE, and Raufeon Stots (6-0). Mike Rhodes Victory FC 53 takes place tonight at Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center in Waterloo, Iowa. The main card streams on UFC Fight Pass.

Filed under: News , Videos Friday night might’ve played host to one of the most action-packed minutes in MMA history – and many fight fans probably didn’t even realize it. While Michael Chandler absolutely blasted Patricio Freire in Bellator 157’s MMA co-headliner, Mike Plazola unloaded a vicious highlight-reel knockout of his own in Victory FC 51’s opener. Chandler’s first-round starching of “Pitbull” aired on Spike in front of a large TV audience, but in a smaller UFC Fight Pass-streamed bout at Buccaneer Arena in De Moines, Iowa, Plazola (10-6) unloaded a crushing right hand and folded fellow 150-pounder Anthony Baccam (9-5). The bouts took place just moments apart, but don’t be surprised to see both of them on some Knockout of the Month and event KO of the Year lists. Robert Emerson For the first time in more than a decade as a professional fighter, Robert Emerson claimed an organizational championship when he defeated Shawn West to capture the vacant Victory FC bantamweight title in Friday’s Victory FC 51 main event. Emerson (17-11) put his veteran savvy to work against a more inexperienced foe in West (12-7) in the UFC Fight Pass-streamed headliner at Buccaneer Arena in De Moines, Iowa. He mixed up his striking and grappling attacks in the first round to wear his opponent down and set up the rear-naked choke finish at the 1:30 mark of round 2. Despite experiencing a popped cauliflower ear in the first round that splatted blood across his face, Emerson continued to press the action in the 135-pound championship contest. He eventually got on top of West and into mount, forcing his opponent to give up his back and open up for the fight-ending choke.
