In the headlining bout, heavyweight champion Blagoy Ivanov puts his title on the line for the second time when he faces Josh Copeland . In the co-main event, two former UFC fighters, Jason High and Mike Ricci face off in a fight that could determine the next lightweight to face champion Justin Gaethje, a man that more than lives up to his nickname, “The Highlight.” Speaking of Gaethje, a man that has brought the best out of him on two occasions, Luis Palomino , is also fighting at WSOF 31. First, the lightweight was unable to continue on to the semifinals of the WSOF 25 one-night, eight-man tournament, being replaced by eventual winner Brian Foster. Now, he’s out of the WSOF 27 main event. According to the official WSOF website , Ricci (11-4) re-injured his hip and had to pull out of his bout with fellow UFC veteran Caros Fodor (10-4)

Field set for WSOF 25′s one-night, eight-man lightweight tourney – with title shot on line

WSOF championship belt The WSOF is going old school to elect the next contender to lightweight champ Justin Gaethje’s title. The promotion today announced that WSOF 25, which takes place Nov. 20 at Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, will feature a single elimination eight-man tournament to crown its No. 1 contender at 155 pounds. Among those slated to participate in the tournament: two-time title challenger Luis Palomino (23-11), Brian Foster (22-7), Mike Ricci (10-4), Islam Mamedov (12-1), Brian Cobb (20-8), Jorge Patino 37-15-2), Joao Zeferino (18-6) and onetime title challenger Rich Patishnock (6-2). Quarterfinal matchups will be announced shortly, as will tournament rules.

WSOF Championship Belt WSOF is jumping on the one-night-tournament bandwagon with the announcement it will hold a one-night, eight-man lightweight tournament on Nov. 20 to crown a No. 1 contender for the promotion’s lightweight championship. The announcement for the event, which takes place in Seattle and air live on NBCSN, was made on Twitter . 1 NIGHT ONLY, 8-man LW tournament! Nov 20th in Seattle live on @NBCSN ! Winner gets Gaethje/Palomino!
