UFC on FOX 10 medical suspensions: Adriano Martins among four fighters given extra terms

After being on the receiving end of a devastating head kick, UFC lightweight Adriano Martins not surprisingly was given the most serious medical suspension arising from UFC on FOX 10. Martins, who was knocked out by Donald Cerrone on this past Saturday’s FOX-televised event, is benched for 90 days with 60 days no contact, according to the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation, which today provided medical suspensions to MMAjunkie. UFC on FOX 10 took place at Chicago’s United Center. The event’s main card aired live on FOX following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. In total, four fighters on the card received more significant suspensions than the remaining 18, who received mandatory 15-day terms.

CHICAGO – Daron Cruickshank posted one of his better UFC performances and earned an highlight-reel victory over lightweight Mike Rio . Today’s lightweight bout was part of the UFC on FOX 10 preliminary card, which aired on FOX Sports 1 from Chicago’s United Center. Cruickshank (14-4 MMA, 4-2 UFC) escaped a deep knee bar from Rio (9-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC) before regrouping and putting his noted striking skills to use. It resulted in a flashy head-kick win. The UFC on Saturday returns to network television giant FOX for the 10th time as “UFC on FOX 10: Henderson vs. Thomson” goes down from the United Center in Chicago. It will be the third year in a row that the organization visits “The Windy City” for the first of four FOX events over the calendar year, and in the featured bout of the evening, former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson (19-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) attempts to get back on track after dropping his belt to Anthony Pettis when he faces Josh Thomson (20-5 MMA, 3-1 UFC) in a bout scheduled for 25 minutes. Even though it will be the first FOX card since August 2012 without a championship fight on tap, it is still a solid event with plenty of notable matchups, including a heavyweight contenders bout in the co-main event – Gabriel Gonzaga (16-7 MMA, 11-6 UFC), who is 4-1 since returning to the UFC in late 2012, takes on the surging Stipe Miocic (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC)

One bout’s recent cancellation has opened the door for a new televised fight at this month’s UFC on FOX 10 event. UFC officials on Wednesday announced that Russian newcomer Oleksiy Oliynyk (2-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has suffered an injury and been forced out of a heavyweight bout with Jared Rosholt (9-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC). As a result, lightweights Daron Cruickshank (13-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and Mike Rio (9-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) have been promoted from the UFC Fight Pass online preliminary card to the televised prelims on FOX Sports 1. UFC on FOX 10 takes place Jan.

‘TUF 15′ alums Daron Cruickshank, Mike Rio meet at UFC on FOX 10 in Chicago

The UFC’s January dance card in Chicago continues to fill up with the addition of the show’s 11th fight – a battle of alums from Season 15 of “The Ultimate Fighter.” Daron Cruickshank (13-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC) will meet Mike Rio (9-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) in a lightweight bout when the UFC returns to the Windy City next month for UFC on FOX 10. Promotion officials announced the new fight booking on Sunday. UFC on FOX 10 takes place Jan. 25 at United Center in Chicago. The main card, including a main-event lightweight contenders bout between former UFC champ Benson Henderson and former Strikeforce titleholder Josh Thomson, will air on FOX following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and MMAjunkie. Cruickshank a month ago was submitted by Adriano Martins in Brazil, so he’ll be looking to get back on track following that loss.
